Most of the survivors looked to Jack to be their leader shortly after the crash of Flight 815. Jack reluctantly took on the position. Do you think Jack a good leader?
Argument 1 - Jack is a Good Leader
-
Jack has a lot of knowledge, especially when it comes to medical needs, however, this isn't enough to be a good leader. Jack does have some good leadership qualities, though.
- Jack waits until he's taken care of the other survivors before he has Kate stitch the wound on his back. (Ep: 1x1, Pilot Part 1)
- He breaks up a fight between Sawyer and Sayid. (Ep: 1x2, Pilot Part 2)
- Jack gives a speech to the group about living together. During the speech he says, "If we can't live together, we're going to die alone." (Ep: 1x5, White Rabbit)
- Jack gets the meds back from Sawyer by beating him at poker. (Ep: 2x17, Lockdown)
- He listens to Sayid when Sayid says that something is strange about Michael. (Ep: 2x23, Live Together, Die Alone)
- Jack purposely injures Ben during Ben's surgery in order to get Kate and Sawyer off the small island and back to the main island. (Ep: 3x6, I Do)
- Jack and Juliet come up with a plan to stop the Others and to get off the island. (Ep: 3x20, The Man Behind the Curtain)
- Jack wants to stay behind and attack the Others, but listens to Sayid when Sayid tells Jack that he has to be a leader and lead their people to the radio tower. (Ep: 3x21, Greatest Hits)
- Jack gracefully steps down and lets Sawyer become the leader. (Ep: 5x9, Namaste)
-
In Jack's defense, he never wanted to be the leader and it was sort of thrust upon him. As Sawyer has pointed out, Jack has made some very bad decisions along the way.
- Jack moves people to the cave, even though they all don't agree that it's the best place for them to live. (Ep: 1x6, House of the Rising Sun)
- Jack punches Sawyer in order to get the asthma meds, but he's unsuccessful. (Ep: 1x8, Confidence Man)
- He believes Claire is having anxiety nightmares because of her pregnancy.
- Blinded by his guilt for not believing Claire, Jack goes after Ethan, who has kidnapped Claire and Charlie. Ethan warns Jack to stay away, but Jack presses on and Ethan hangs Charlie. (Ep: 1x11, All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues)
- Jack wants to save Boone at all costs, even if it means making Boone suffer and giving Boone his own blood. (Ep: 1x20, Do No Harm)
- Jack wants to go after Locke, but needs to rest after giving Boone so much blood. The only reason he sleeps is because Kate slips him sleeping pills. (Ep: 1x21, The Greater Good)
- Jack lets Kate believe that she is carrying dynamite back from the Black Rock, when actually he is carrying it. (Ep: 1x24, Exodus Part 2)
- Jack, along with Locke, was conned by Sawyer and Sawyer got control of the guns. (Ep: 2x13, The Long Con)
- He is more concerned about going into the jungle and finding the Others than he is about making sure Michael is okay. (Ep: 2x20, Two for the Road)
- Jack brings Juliet back to camp and hangs out with her, making the survivors lose trust in him. (Ep: 3x18, D.O.C.)
- Jack doesn't listen to Kate when she points out that Naomi may have left a dummy trail. (Ep: 4x1, The Beginning of the End)
- Jack keeps his illness from everyone until he passes out. (Ep: 4x10, Something Nice Back Home)
- Jack doesn't listen to Locke's warnings about leaving the island. (Ep: 4x13, There's No Place Like Home Part 2)
I think he can be, but I think he reacts too quickly instead of thinking things through.
