Kate's Flashback - Kate Tells Kevin
Kate looks at a pregnancy test and sees that she's not pregnant.Kate brings Kevin a drink as he works at a computer. She asks what he's working on.
He's finishing some paperwork on a fugitive recovery in Tampa. "That's what being a cop is, just endless paperwork."
"What if I told you I was a fugitive?" Kate asks, her eyes filling with tears. "What if I told you I was on the run for blowing up my father and it was only a matter of time before you found out?"
"This isn't funny."
"It's not a joke. I almost had a baby, Kev. Me, a baby! I can't do this. Taco night? I don't do taco night."
"Calm down, Monica."
"My name's not Monica. I love you, but I can't stay." She starts to walk away.
Kevin gets up, but can't stand. "Something's wrong with me."
"I drugged you. I had to. Otherwise they would think you knew. People are going to be asking a lot of questions and I don't want you to lose your job." He falls to the ground.
She takes the necklace out of her pocket and puts it in his hand. She kisses him.
Ben's Surgery, Jacob's List
Jack and Juliet scrub up.Jack tells Juliet, "This is going to be a very difficult procedure. If I tell you to do something, I need you to do it then and there, no questions asked."
"You may find this hard to believe," Juliet says, "but I've always been very good at following orders."
"Is that a yes?" he asks.
"Yes."
"Good, let's go."
Ben is laying face down, being prepped by two nurses. "You get nervous before you do surgery?" he asks Jack.
"I used to. Not anymore, no."
Pickett, Tom, and one of the other guards, Jason, stand in the viewing room.
"What ever happens," Ben says, "things will be very different, won't it?"
"No doubt about it," Jack says.
Ben asks Juliet if Alex asked about him and she says no. "We took her home last night. I don't know where she is now."
"Well," Ben says, "see you on the other side. I'm ready."
They put Ben out and Jack asks Juliet for a scalpel. He makes an incision.
From the viewing room, Pickett tells Jason, let's go. As they walk out, Jason says, "Ben just went into surgery."
"Ben just put his life in the hands of one of them!" Pickett says as he draws his gun. "Shephard wasn't even on Jacob's list."
Pickett goes to the cage. It's raining and Kate and Sawyer are dressed. "Well, look who got out of her cage. Let's go, James."
Kate stands in the way and says he doesn't have to do this, but he tells her to step away.
Meanwhile, Jack is working on Ben with Juliet. He picks up a scalpel and looks around. Then he makes a cut and the monitor starts beeping.
"What happened," Juliet asks, "is he okay?"
"His blood pressure is dropping," a man says. "Should he be bleeding like that?"
"No, no he shouldn't," Jack says and hits the man. He tells Juliet to back away from the table. He asks if Tom can hear him. Tom says yeah, and Jack says, "I just made a small incision in Ben's kidney sack. Now, if I don't stitch that up in the next hour, he's dead. Now get in here and bring that walkie talkie!"
Outside, Sawyer wrestles with Pickett and gets him in a choke hold. Jason gets control of Kate, and Pickett tells Sawyer to let go or he'll shoot Kate too.
"Don't you think about it, Sawyer, you fight!" Kate says.
Sawyer gives in and Pickett takes him outside the cage and tells him to get on his knees. Kate tells him to fight and tells Pickett to get his hands off Sawyer.
"Please," Kate says, "I'll do anything you want!"
"I want you to watch," Pickett says.
"Close your eyes, Freckles," Sawyer says.
"Don't you give up!"
Pickett cocks the gun. "This is for Colleen, you son of a bitch!"
Over the walkie, Tom says, "Danny, you there? Pick it up, Danny! Pick it up, damn it!"
Pickett picks up and Tom says, "You anywhere near the cages?"
"Yeah, you could say that."
"Give your walkie to Kate."
"Why the hell would I do that?"
"Because if you don't, the doctor's going to let Ben die. Just hand her the damn walkie, Danny. Do it! Just do it, now!"
He gives her the walkie and she says, "Jack!"
He tells her, "You have about an hour head start before they come after you."
"Where are you, where are you?"
"You remember that story I told you on the beach? Do you remember what story I told you when you were stitching me up? When you get safe, you radio me and tell me that story. If I don't hear from you in the next hour, I'm going to know that something went wrong, and he dies!"
"I can't leave without you."
"Yes you are, go!"
"I can't!"
"Kate, damn it, run!"
