What Killed Eko?

They cover Eko's body with a blanket.

Locke holds Eko's cross. He stands and Nikki asks what happened to Eko.

"Must have been an animal," Locke says. "Maybe one of the bears."

"Are we going to carry him back?" she asks.

"No," he says. "We're going to bury him here. The people back at camp -- there's just been a few too many funerals lately. Nobody needs to see him like this. I'll slip back to the beach and get a couple of shovels."

"I'll come with you," Sayid says.

"No, I'll be back in an hour."

"It's not safe to go alone, John" Sayid says.

"I appreciate your concern," Locke says.

As they walk through the jungle, Sayid says, "So what really killed Eko?"

"The folks back at the beach call it the monster. I don't really have a name for it. You don't belive in monsters."

"I believe in what I can see," Sayid says. "But obviously you have. So why don't you tell me what you think it is."

"Might be what brought us here."

"So you believe that this monster decided that Eko was meant to die?"

"I believe Eko died for a reason. I just don't know what it is yet."

"Is that why you lied? We're not headed back towards the camp, are we, John?"

"Sure we are. Just need to take a little detour first."

Compound Breakthrough

Kate and Sawyer work with the rocks. Over the speakers, a recorded voice says, "Compound breakthrough. Compound breakthrough."

"Where is she?" Pickett asks into his walkie.

Chaos breaks out and Pickett says, "Someone's on the grid. I want him down, her too," he says about Sawyer and Kate. "If he moves, shoot him."

He walks away, listening to the walkie, then says, "Yeah, they're here. The doctor get out again? You sure? Well does he know? How the hell did she get over here?"

Alex pops out with a sling shot. She hits one man with a rock and he goes down. She hits another and tells Kate and Sawyer, "Get up, come on get up, go!"

"Alex," Pickett says, "what the hell do you think you're doing?" He has a gun pointed at her.

She has her sling shot ready and pointed at him. "What, you going to shoot me?" she asks.

"You know you're not supposed to be here," Pickett says. "Let's just calm down."

"What did you do to him, Danny?" she yells. "I want to talk to Ben."

"Sure," Pickett says. "So why don't we just lower our little-"

"Where is he? Tell me!"

From behind, someone grabs Alex. She tells Kate, "Listen, whatever they say, don't believe them. They're going to kill your boyfriend, just like they killed mine."

Kate looks at Sawyer. She keeps looking at Sawyer worriedly, after they begin work.

Pickett and Juliet talk quietly. "It was supposed to be two weeks," Pickett says.

"I know that," Juliet says and they continue to argue. Pickett says it's stupid.

Juliet walks over to Kate with a bag outstretched. "I would like you to put this on and come with me, please."

"You think I'm going to put a hood over my head because you said please?"

"No, Kate, I think you're going to put a hood over your head because the man standing behind me, the one who's burning a hole in my back, that man is going to kill Sawyer. But if you put this on and you come with me, there's something you can do to save his life."

She looks over at Sawyer and then puts on the hood.

Kate's Flashback - Mother-in-law

Wearing a wedding dress, Kate studies herself in the mirror. A knock at the door and a woman comes in. "Oh sweetheart," she says, "you look absolutely beautiful."

Kate smiles. "How is it out there?"

"There are a lot of excited policemen. Don't worry, I've asked them not to shoot their guns in the air when you say I do."

Kate laughs. "You know, mothers-in-law aren't supposed to be so nice."

"Um, Monica, I have something for you." She hands Kate a necklace.

"Suzanne, you shouldn't have," Kate says.

"My mother gave me that on my wedding day. She told me someday I'd give it to my daughter, but since I had four boys, here."

Kate puts it on. "It's perfect."

Later, Kate and Kevin stand before a minster as people look on. "You know," the minister says, "Kevin's been coming to church here since he was about yay high. When I first met you, Monica, I was struck by your honesty and your devotion to Kevin. When I asked him what he loved most about you, he said, 'That what you see is what you get.' That being said, you've got your rings, vowed your vows. I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

They kiss and then walk back down the aisle as everyone claps. Kate looks really happy.
