The Leader
Bernard shoots two Dharma cans as Rose and Sayid watch. "You want me to shoot another one?" he asks."No, you've made your point," Sayid says.
"Bernard," Rose says, "this is not pheasant hunting in Montgomery County."
"I know what I'm doing," Bernard says.
"Pheasants don't shoot back."
"Nothing's going to happen to me, Rose. I just have to shoot a tent, then I'll be right behind you."
"Then I'm staying, too," she says.
Jack walks up. "No you're not, Rose. Everyone's gathering down at the south end of the beach. No one is staying with the shooters."
"Says who?" she asks. "You want to give me your word that nothing is going to happen to my husband, then I'll go."
"I'll give you my word that if we don't kill everyone who is going to show up here in about an hour, it won't matter where Bernard is.""I like you better since you got back, Jack. You're almost an optimist." She takes Bernard's hand. "Come on. If you're going to be hiding in the bushes, let's get you into something dark."
"You better get going," Jack tells Sayid. "Rousseau says it's about a days walk up to the radio tower."
"I'm not taking them to the radio tower," Sayid says. "You are."
"Excuse me?"
"You're not staying behind," Sayid says.
"This was my idea."
"And I'm perfectly capable of executing it."
"I owe them!" Jack says.
"What are you more concerned with, killing the Others or getting our people off this island? This afternoon you said you were our leader. It's time for you to act like one. Lead them to the radio tower, Jack. And then take us all home."
Hurley Love
Charlie and Desmond make preparations at the boat and Hurley runs over. "Dude, wait for me. I heard what you're doing. I want to come with. Everyone, they're all going to the radio tower. I'm sick of trekking and explosions. I figured I could help you guys out. I'm a really good paddler.""You can't go, Hurley," Charlie says.
"Why not?"
"You're too big. You won't fit in the boat."
"That's uncool, man." Hurley walks away and Charlie tells him to wait.
Charlie runs after Hurley and hugs him.
"Dude, it's fine. I don't even want to go on your stupid boat."
Charlie smiles. "Catch up with you later. Just remember I love you, man."
"Yeah, whatever, I love you too."
Leaving
The camp prepares to leave. Jack makes sure everyone has a lot of water. Kate walks up, "Hey.""Hey," Jack says.
"So here we go again, huh?" she says.
"Here we go again."
Juliet walks over. "The tents are all marked. We're set."
"Sayid find the third shooter?"
Juliet nods in the direction of Sun and Jin.
Hurley walks over to Claire and Aaron. "You all ready to go, Claire? Need a hand with the little guy?"
"Oh, no thanks, I'm okay," she says. She puts a bag on her arm and picks up Aaron. "We're just going to go for a little walk, so hold on to Mum, okay?"
As she walks away, we see the DS ring in the cradle.
The Cable
Desmond and Charlie find the cable and follow it in the boat.Charlie's Flashback - Meeting Claire
After things calm down after the crash, Charlie sees a very pregnant Claire. He walks over with a blanket. "Hiya. Do you want a blanket?""Oh, thanks, I've got one."
"You're warming for two. Take mine.""Thank you." She takes it.
He sits next to her and says, "So, first plane crash?"
"What gave it away?"
"I can always spot the newbies," he says. "We're going to be okay, you know."
"We are?"
"We're alive on a beautiful island. We'll sleep under the stars, and before you know it, the helicopters will come and take us all home."
"You really think they'll find us?"
"Well yeah, why wouldn't they?"
"Thanks."
He introduces himself.
Charlie's Greatest Hits
Charlie writes, "#1 The night I met you."Desmond sees the cable going down into the ocean. "We're here."
"I want you to give this to Claire for me." He hands Desmond the paper.
"What is it?"
"The five best moments of my sorry excuse for a life. Greatest hits. Memories. They're all I've got."
"You don't have to do this, Charlie. I'll go."
"No, your flashes."
"Maybe I keep seeing you die because I'm supposed to take your place."
"What about your girl, Penny?"
"What about your girl? Besides, I might be luckier than you."
Charlie smiles.
"Keep your memories to yourself." He hands Charlie the paper. "I'll take it from here." Desmond takes off his shoes.
"I don't know what to say," Charlie says.
"You can tell me where the weight belt is."
"Right there behind you."
Desmond turns to get the belt and when he turns back, Charlie knocks him out with the oar. "You and I both know, you're not supposed to take my place."
Charlie takes the belt. He fights back tears, then jumps into the water. He lets the belt pull him down to the station. He goes under the station and lets the belt go. He struggles to make it to the moon pool. He comes up into a room and gasps for air.
Charlie looks around at the inside of the station. He swims to a ladder and climbs up. "I'm alive. I'm alive!"
A door opens and two woman come in with guns trained on Charlie.
