Juliet's Flashback - Off the Island
A woman is on the operating table. She flat lines. People in scrubs with the medical hatch logo on them stand around her. Ethan pulls off his mask and says, "She's gone, Juliet. She's dead."Juliet is really upset and Goodwin, also in scrubs, says, it's alright and that she tried. "Why don't you go ahead and take off. I'll talk to Ben," he says.
Later, Juliet sits alone looking across the ocean. Ben walks over and says, "It was Sabine's choice to get pregnant." He sits next to her. "She knew she was taking a risk."
"I think it happens at conception," Juliet says. "And if that's the case there is nothing I can do about it, at least not here."
"I'm not sure I understand."
"The only way to see if I'm right is to take a woman off the island, back to Miami."
"No, you're not taking anyone off the island."
"In that case, there's nothing more I can do. I know you put a lot of faith in me, Ben, and I'm sorry I couldn't help you. My sister is giving birth in three months, and I haven't even been able to call her. It's time for me to go home." She pats Ben's shoulder and then gets up to walk away.
Ben stands. "Your sister won't be giving birth in three months," Ben says. "She'll be dead before then. Her cancer is back." He hands her a file.
She opens it and looks it over. "Where did you get this?"
"Mikhail. I'm sorry, I should have told you sooner, but I didn't see what good it would do."
"What good it would do? I could have gone home! I could have been with her!" Juliet yells.
"You still can," Ben says. "You can go home and be with her in her final days, or you can stay here and help me with our problem."
"Why would I stay?"
"Because if you do, I will cure your sister's cancer."
"And I'm supposed to take that on faith?"
"You've been here for six months. You've done extensive workups on all of us. Have you seen even a trace of cancer?"
"That's here! And being that you won't let me bring my sister here--"
"Jacob said he would take care of it himself. Unless, of course, you don't have faith in him? Every woman on this island needs you. If you choose to stay, I promise you, we will save Rachel's life."
Claire Passes Out
It's nighttime on the beach. "Trust her?" Sun says. "She's one of them!""Not anymore," Jack says. "They left her behind."
"Oh yeah?" Charlie says, "Where'd they go?"
"I told you," Jack says, "I don't know."
"Maybe we ought to ask her," Sawyer says.
"She doesn't know either," Jack says.
"Well here's a wacky idea," Sawyer says. "Let's sic our resident Iraqi on her. Let him do what he does and then see what she says.""No," Sayid says, "I don't do that anymore."
"Well ain't that convenient," Sawyer says.
"But I don't trust her, Jack," Sayid says.
Claire shuffles over. Charlie goes to her.
"Why won't she answer our questions?" Sayid asks.
"Give her some time. She's afraid," Jack says. Sayid wants to know how much time and Jack says, "Look, the fact that I trust her should be enough."
"It's not," Sayid says.
Charlie holds Claire.
"Where did Locke go?" Desmond asks.
"He went with them after he destroyed the sub. The sub that was going to take me off this island."
"They were going to let you go?" Sawyer says. "Said who?"
"Ben."
"Ben, who's life you saved!"
"Sawyer, lay off," Kate says. "He did it for us."
"You should have let that bug-eyed bastard die!" Sawyer says. "Sounds like he did it for him."
"Is there something you want to ask me, Sawyer?" Jack says.
"Yeah, Jack," Sawyer says, "I want to know why you're fighting every one of us and sticking up for one of them."
"I spent every moment over there trying to get off this island!"
Claire passes out and Charlie sees that blood is coming out of her nose. He calls for Jack and they carry her to her shelter. Jack asks Charlie all kinds of questions.
Juliet comes up to Sun and Jin and asks what happened to Claire. Sun translates for Jin, "He said, 'What do you care?'."
Juliet goes to Kate and says she needs her help. She wants her to go and get Jack. Kate says that Jack is busy, but Juliet insists that she needs to talk to him.
Kate asks why and Juliet says, "Because I think I know what's wrong with Claire." Kate asks why again and Juliet says, "Because I did it to her."
