Flashbacks in Italics
Sayid, Juliet, Kate, and Jack hike across a meadow. Then in a more wooded area, they walk through a thigh-deep creek.
On the other side of the creek, Sayid says that it's getting late and this is a good place to make camp.
"I'll get some firewood," Jack says and Kate says that she'll go with him.
As Kate and Jack gather firewood, Kate says, "You want to talk about it?"
"Talk about what?" Jack asks.
"About the week you spent over there with them."
"Well, after you left, I made a deal with them that if I took care of Ben they'd let me off the island. I just kept my head down, did what I was supposed to, and didn't ask any questions."
"And that's it?"
"That's it."
Back at the creek, Juliet washes while Sayid fills a canteen. Sayid stares at Juliet and she says, "Okay, let's have it."
"I want to know what you people are doing on this island. Why you're terrorizing us, making lists, kidnapping children. I want to know everything, but the first thing I'd like to know is, who are you?"
Juliet's Flashback - Goodbye Rachel
With the song "Downtown" playing in her car, Juliet drives up to a gate and tells the man that she is Juliet Burke with Mittelos Bioscience. The man says he'll let Dr. Alpert know she's there.Juliet rolls the window up and looks over at her passenger, her sister Rachel, and smiles.
"Wow," Rachel says. She looks up at the camera on the other side of the gate. "I think they're taking this whole corporate secrecy thing a little too seriously."
"I'm never going to fit in with these people," Juliet says.
A knock on her window and she rolls the window down. It's Ethan. "Hey there, Dr. Burke. If you pop the trunk I'll get your bags."
The gate opens and Richard Alpert walks out. Juliet gets out of the car.
"Hey, you managed to find us," Richard says.
"I didn't even know they had an airport out here."
"I know, it surprises everyone."
Richard walks around the car to where Rachel has just gotten out. "You must be Rachel. Richard Alpert."
"Nice to meet you," Rachel says.
"Thank you for letting us borrow your sister for a few months."
"Just promise me you'll bring her back in one piece."
"Well, we'll do our best," Richard says with a smile.
"Listen," Richard says to Juliet, "it's a security thing, we have to take you in the rest of the way. So, whenever you're ready we'll be waiting right over here. Please take your time."
Juliet, with tears in her eyes, hands Rachel the car key.
"It's better this way," Rachel says.
"Is this a mistake?" Juliet asks. "I shouldn't go. What if you get sick again?"
"I won't," Rachel says. "The cancer's gone and I'm 100% pregers thanks to you."
"I'll be back before you give birth. I promise."
"I know. Don't worry about us. You spent your whole life working to get here, so don't blow it." They both laugh.
They say they love each other, then Juliet goes to the van. Rachel watches as the gate closes.
Jack's Protection
At the creek, Sayid asks, "Who are you?"Juliet swallows. "If I told you who I was, if I told you everything that I know, you'd kill me."
"What do you think I'll do if you don't?"
Jack walks over. "Leave her alone."
Kate puts firewood down.
Sayid says, "Sooner or later she'll answer my questions."
"She'll answer your questions when she's ready," Jack says. "You'll wait until she is. She's under my protection."
Tired Claire
Charlie walks along the beach and hears Aaron crying. "Claire?" he says and goes to her shelter.He picks up Aaron and then shakes Claire awake. He asks if she's alright and she says she is, but she feels a little bit off. "I didn't sleep well. I can't believe I didn't hear him cry."
"Maybe you're coming down with something," Charlie says. "Look, why don't you let me take Aaron and you get some more rest."
Charlie looks worried.
How Much Time?
Sayid and Kate quickly hike through the jungle. Juliet and Jack lag behind and Juliet says, "I guess it's no use asking them to wait up, huh?""They'll come around, just give them some time," Jack says.
"My people kept Sayid chained to a swing set for three days. Then I dragged Kate into the jungle, handcuffed myself to her, and then lied about it. How much time do you think they need?" She smiles.
"We'll be back to our beach in a couple of hours. They'll probably be over it by then." They both laugh. "You nervous?"
"Yes."
