"Left Behind" Recap

Part 4

From , former About.com Guide

Sawyer the Hunter

With a pistol, Sawyer lays on his stomach in the jungle next to Desmond. "Why do we gotta be out here so damn early?"

"You asked me to help you get a boar. Well this is when they break cover to eat."

"Looks like they picked a day to sleep in," Sawyer says.

"So what's your angle, brother? You haven't said three words to me and then suddenly you want to be my hunting partner."

"My angle is that I got hearts and minds to change. And politics is all about bribes. Since money don't mean squat on this island, I've got to give the people something they like, and people like meat."

Desmond shushes him and raises his rifle. They see a boar and Desmond shoots.

Time to Move On

Kate wakes up with a start. She asks Juliet how her shoulder is.

"Awesome," Juliet says.

"Then let's get going."

Kate's Flashback - Talking to Mom

Diane serves Cassidy something in a bowl at the diner.

"Thank you," Cassidy says.

"You're welcome, sweetheart."

Diane walks away and Cassidy moves the bowl to the edge of the table. As Diane walks by, Cassidy pushes the bowl so that it spills on Diane. She apologizes and calls herself an idiot.

Diane says it's okay, it happens all the time. Diane goes into the bathroom to clean up.

"Hi, Mom," Kate says.

"What are you doing here, Katherine?"

"You look good."

"I asked you what you are doing here."

"I want to know why you told them what I did to Wayne."

"I thought maybe you came because you wanted to say you're sorry."

"I'm not sorry! He hit you! He treated you like a dog and you--"

"You can't help who you love, Katherine, and for good or bad, I loved him and you burnt him alive. You turned on the gas and you lit a match. You murdered him in cold blood."

"I did it for you."

"No, what you did, you did for yourself. I have to go back to work. Because you are my daughter I'm not going to tell the two men sitting at the table who've been following me for the last month that you are here. But I swear to God, Katie, if I ever see you again, the first thing I will do is yell for help." She says bye and walks out.

Kate cries.

Juliet's Key

It's daytime and Kate and Juliet walk through the jungle. "Did he say that to you?" Kate asks.

"I'm sorry?"

"That I broke his heart?"

"He didn't have to."

"You don't know anything about him," Kate says.

"I know where he was born. I know what his parents did for a living. I know that he was married and who he was married to and why he got a divorce. I know how his father died. I know his height, his weight, his birthday and his blood type. What do you know about him, Kate?"

"Let's go," she says, and they continue on. Kate stops when she hears the sounds of the monster and then tells Juliet to run. They run, but fall in the mud.

They get up and run, but Kate stops them when they get to the security fence.

"What are you doing?" Juliet says.

"I know what happens when you go through those things."

"They're off," Juliet says.

They struggle and the sounds of the monster get closer. Juliet pulls the handcuff key out of her pocket and unlocks her side. She runs inside the security fence and types in a code. "You're going to want to be over here," Juliet says.

Kate turns to the sounds of the monster, then goes on Juliet's side of the fence. She continues to run, but Juliet stops and faces the monster. It runs into the fence and Kate stops to watch. It leaves.

Kate pushes Juliet.

"Alright," Juliet says, "we don't know what it is, but we know that it doesn't like our fences."

"You had a key!"

"They left me behind too. They gassed me. I know that you don't care, but the people who I spent the past three years of my life with, they just left me. I thought that maybe, maybe if I could make you think that we were in it together, maybe I wouldn't get left behind again."

Kate takes the handcuff key from Juliet and walks away, throwing the cuffs on the ground.
