Flashbacks in Italics

Kate sits on the ground of the game room. She is handcuffed, watching the window. Juliet walks by and Kate runs to the door with a pool stick. She swings at Juliet, but Juliet grabs her and flips her, along with a plate of food that breaks on the floor.

Juliet looks hurt. "I was just bringing you something to eat. Enjoy your sandwich." She walks out.

Kate lays on the ground, coughing and trying to get her breath.

Kate's Flashback - Cassidy

Kate's car breaks down in Iowa and she gets it towed to a gas station.

She introduces herself as Lucy.

At the gas station, Cassidy tries to sell necklaces. The guy says he's going to call the cops and the tow truck driver asks what's going on.

Kate wants to see them. She says her father owns a jewelry store and she can spot a fake. She buys one for 60 dollars and the guys walk away. She asks for her money back.

Cassidy wants to know why she helped her.

"Just one girl watching another girl's back, I guess," Kate says.

"Or," Cassidy says, "you're stranded here, and for some reason, you didn't want that guy calling the cops."

Kate stops and Cassidy says, "I'll give you a ride into town and you buy me drink."

Goodbye

Someone opens the door and walks in behind Kate. "What?" she says.

"Kate."

She turns to see Locke. "John, what are you doing? Did they capture you?"

"Yes, but only temporarily. I came to say goodbye."

"Goodbye?"

"I'm leaving with them."
"What the hell is going on? I mean what are they doing to you? Are you brainwashed? Where did Jack go?"

"Jack didn't go anywhere, Kate. He's going to have to stay behind like you."

"You can't trust them! If they told you that you'll get to go home, they're lying--"

"I don't want to go home, Kate. I want you to know that I made a strong case for you. I told them that you were a good person, reliable, smart, honest. Then they told me who you were and what you'd done. Let's just say that forgiveness isn't one of their strong suits. Good luck." He walks out.

"John, where you going?"

"Coming out," he calls.

"Where are Jack and Sayid? Have you seen Rousseau? John, please, what's happened to you?"

"I'm sorry, Kate." He walks out.

Banishment

Sawyer sits with a book on his lap overlooking the ocean.

Hurley walks by and kicks his boot.

"What the hell's wrong with you?" Sawyer says.

Hurley stops in front of Sawyer with his back to him. "Don't look at me and pretend we're not talking. I'm not supposed to be here."

"Good, then scram!"

"Dude, you need to know that there's been some chatter. After Paulo and Nikki and everything. Tomorrow there's going to be vote."

"A vote for what?"

"To decide whether or not to banish you."

"Banish me? Where?"

"Well, there's debate about that, but the consensus was about half a mile down the beach."

"Consensus!"

"I'm only saying this because there may be a way to fix it, to make amends."

"I don't do amends."

"You might want to ask yourself about all the good things that come from being a part of this society. I mean, you can't even feed yourself. You use our latrine. You drink the water that Steve brings every morning."

Sawyer looks at his watch. "You know how for three days, 10 hours and 15 minutes I ain't allowed to use nicknames?"

"Yeah."

"Well, you sir, Hugo, are rotund, annoying, and you're ruining my damn view. How's that for amends?"

"You're making a big mistake, Dude."

Gassed

Kate wakes up on the floor and eats the bread from her sandwich. She hears something outside and looks to see a bunch of people putting on gas masks. Someone opens her door and throws a canister inside. She grabs the napkin and puts it over her mouth, but she passes out.

Kate's Flashback - Names and Bad Men

Sitting in a bar, Cassidy asks Kate her name. Kate smiles and says, "Lucy."

"What's your real name?" Cassidy says. "The next time somebody asks you, don't think about it, not even for a second. So, why Lucy?"

"She's a saint. Memorized them all when I was in Sunday school, so I figure they're all rattling around in my brain."

"What makes a girl who went to Sunday school scared of cops?"

Kate takes a drink. "A few months ago, I killed my stepfather and then escaped from the Marshal who arrested me for it."

"Why?"

"'Cause he was a bad guy."

"So, what the hell are you doing in Iowa?"

"I want to talk to my mother."

"You're going to have a really hard time doing that, because if you did what you just said you did, the fed's are going to be watching her 24/7."

"I'll figure something out."

"Oh, you will huh?"

"What, you want to help me?"

"Absolutely."

"Why?" Kate asks.

"I fell in love with the wrong guy and then I gave him my life savings. He conned me and embarrassed me. He was a bad guy. So, I'll help you get the meeting with your mom, Lucy, because one of us deserves something good.
