Sun's Kidnapping
"Okay, so they had a walkie-talkie. You think they were working with the Others?" Hurley asks. "Like how?""Like Michael," Sawyer says.
Charlie, Sun, Jin, Hurley, and Sawyer stand over Paulo's and Nikki's bodies.
"If that's the case," Charlie says, "then why did they kill Nikki and Paulo?"
"Who knows why those people do anything?" Sawyer says. "They could be out there right now waiting to get us."
"I don't know, Dude," Hurley says. "I was with the Others like two weeks ago and they're like on the totally other side of the island."
"Then who dragged me into the jungle?" Sun says. Charlie and Sawyer both look away. "The Others came into our camp. They grabbed me, put a bag over my head. And if I hadn't have gotten away, they would have killed me."
Sawyer pulls a gun from his waistband. "Look, you all stay here, I'll do a perimeter sweep."
"Where'd you get the gun?" Hurley asks.
"I got it off one of them."
"When were going to let us know?" Hurley asks.
"I guess right now," he says and walks away.
"What exactly is a perimeter sweep?" Hurley says.
Charlie shakes his head. Looking at the bodies, Charlie says, "Shouldn't we cover them up?"
"Yes, of course," Sun says.
Paulo's Flashback - Locke's Advice
Paulo is on the beach at night. He has the script bag. He pulls out the Nicotine gum and pops one in his mouth. He digs a hole.Locke walks over and says, "Nice night."
Paulo puts the nesting doll behind his back. Locke asks what he's doing and Paulo says he's not doing anything.
"Well, it looks like you're digging a hole," Locke says. "Every man is entitled to his secrets, Paulo, but can I give you a piece of advice? You should put the shovel away and save yourself some trouble. Things don't stay buried on this island. The beach is eroding. Winter is coming, high tide. Whatever you're hiding, make sure you pick a spot that won't wash away."Later, Paulo climbs down into The Pearl hatch. He sees the TVs, and then goes into the bathroom. He opens the bag and takes out the nesting doll and places it in the toilet tank. He hears voices and closes the bathroom door, looking out through a crack.
He watches as Ben turns the channel on the TV that is on. Ben is in his shabby clothes. He changes the channel so that Juliet can see Jack in the Swan Hatch.
"That him? Shephard?"
"Yes," Ben says.
"Shephard will never agree to do the surgery."
"I can convince him to do it," Ben says.
"How?"
"The same way I get anybody to do anything. I find out what he's emotionally invested in and I exploit it."
"So what? We grab all three of them? Ford and Austen too?"
"No. They need to come to us."
"And how do we make that happen?"
"Michael, of course."
"Are we done here? This place gives me the creeps."
Ben changes the channel on the TV to static, turns off the light, and they walk out.
Paulo comes out of the bathroom and sees that they'd left behind a walkie-talkie. He turns it on.
Hurley's Mate Argues
Hurley goes to Desmond and asks if he heard what happened to Nikki and Paulo. He wants to know if Desmond, with his psychic abilities, knows anything.Desmond says it doesn't work like that, he only see flashbacks.
"No offense, Dude," Hurley says, "but as far as superpowers go, yours is kind of lame."As Hurley walks away, Desmond says, "I do know she was with your mate this morning."
"My mate?"
"I saw her with your boy Sawyer. The dead girl, Nikki."
"He said he didn't know her."
"Then why was she yelling at him?"
Charlie Confesses
Vincent pulls the blanket off of the two bodies.Hurley yells at him.
Charlie says, "So he saw Sawyer and Nikki fighting, that doesn't prove anything."
"Look at the facts," Hurley says, "and ask yourself, why is Sawyer so gung-ho about investigating this? What's in it for him? He pretended he didn't know their names, but then he was fighting with Nikki."
"Sawyer's not a murderer," Sun says. "He went all the way across the island to help Michael. It is the Others. I know what they can do."
"Okay, you know what?" Hurley says. "I'll go get Desmond and he'll tell you exactly what he saw." Hurley walks away.
Alone with Sun, Charlie says, "Sun, it was me. It was me who took you, not the Others. I wasn't myself after Locke hit me, after he humiliated me. Sawyer told me I could get even by helping him steal the guns. We just made it look like the Others. I didn't mean to hurt you."
Sun walks away and Charlie says he's sorry.
Paulo's Flashback - 9 Days Ago
Locke, Sayid, and Desmond walk over. Locke says, "Hey everybody, we're heading out to The Pearl Station, there's a computer there that might help us find our people. Anybody want to come along?""I'll go," Nikki says.
"What?" Paulo says. "You're not serious."
"What?" she says. "You always whine about not being included, now's our chance."
In The Pearl Station, Nikki watches the monitors. "Hey guys," she says, "what are these other TVs for?"
As they talk, Paulo is in the bathroom retrieving the diamonds. He puts them down the front of his pants and puts the nesting dolls back into the toilet tank. He flushes, then walks out. "The toilet still works."
