Jack Talks to Kate
Kate sits on a pool table and works her handcuffed arms until they are in front of her. Tom walks in and says he didn't think he would see her again so soon.Jack comes in and Tom tells him to be careful in here. He points to his ear and the ceiling. Jack says thanks and closes the door. He gets a folding chair and sits on it backwards in front of Kate. "Did they hurt you?" he asks.
"No," she says. "Did they hurt you?"
Jack chuckles and says no. Kate wants to know where they are.
"This is where they live," Jack says.
"And the people they took?" Kate asks. "The kids?"
"They're all safe," Jack says.
Kate looks incredulous and says, "Safe? So you're with them now."
"I'm not with anyone, Kate."
"What did they do to you?" Kate asks. Jack says nothing and she says, "Then why are you acting like this?"
"There's no way...There's no way that I could--"
"I came here to help you!" Kate yells.
"I told you not to come back here for me!"
"I didn't think you meant it."
Jack looks down. Kate comes over and grabs his hands. She squats in front of him. "What did they do to you, Jack?"
"I made a deal with them. They're going to let me go."
"Where?"
"Home."
"When?"
"First thing in the morning. I can bring help."
"You trust these people? They're liars!"
"I trust them because you told me to, Kate, when you asked me to save Sawyer's life."
"Jack, what did they tell you?"
Juliet comes in and says, "Jack, we need to go."
"I'll be right there."
Juliet leaves.
Jack says, "I asked you not to come back here for me and I wish that you hadn't." He whispers in her ear, "I will come back here for you."
Locke's Flashback - Peter Talbot is Dead
Locke parks his little red bug. He pulls his groceries out and walks toward his apartment. A man and woman stop him. "John Locke?" the woman asks. "Detective Mason, that's Detective Reed. Do you mind if we ask you a few questions?""No, of course not," Locke says.
"Do you know a man named Peter Talbot?"
"No, I don't think so."
"Thin, brown hair, early 20s," Reed says.
"If it will be helpful," Mason says, "we believe he was here in your apartment two days ago."
"Oh, oh, oh, yeah," Locke says. "He was a solicitor. I sent him away."
"Mr. Talbot's family is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 million dollars. So I'm curious, what exactly was he selling you door to door?"
"Look, I told you I don't know him."
"And why was your name and address on a piece of paper in his pocket, Mr. Locke?"
"Why would you be looking through his pockets?"
"Because Peter Talbot is dead."
Was Locke's Recovery Immediate?
Locke looks out the window. From his wheelchair, Ben says, "It wasn't easy, you know, being in the hatch with you all that time, knowing you had no business walking around. Knowing I couldn't ask you about it without telling you who I was.""So ask me now. Now that I know who you really are."
"Was it immediate? It started the moment you got here?"
Locke nods. "Yeah."
"And you were just walking, the feeling returned right after the crash? That day?"
"That's what immediate means, Ben. You're wondering why it hasn't happened for you. Your not recovering as fast as you'd like. How long has it been since Jack fixed you up?"
"Are you afraid it will go away, John? Is that why you want to blow up the submarine, because you're afraid if you ever leave this island you're back in the chair?"
"You got anything to eat?" Locke says.
Alex's Mother
Outside, Sayid is chained to a swing set. Alex looks at him."Hey," a man says. "Hold on, kid, you know you're not supposed to be here."
"My father sent me to get his pack," Alex says.
"Why?"
"I don't know, Ryan, but he told me to get it."
Ryan gives her the pack. She starts to walk away and Sayid says, "You're Alex, aren't you?"
"Hey, can it," Ryan says.
She turns. "How do you know my name?"
"Because you look like your mother."
"My mother is dead."
"I'm sure that's what they told you," Sayid says and Ryan hits him and tells Alex to get going.
