Claire Kicks Charlie Out...Again
Charlie puts Aaron down in his cradle. Claire comes in and says, "What's going on with you, Charlie?"He asks her to quiet down because he just put Aaron down. She wants to know what is going on with him and Desmond.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he says.
"So you don't know anything about Desmond shooting his gun and scaring away the birds? Don't lie to me, Charlie!"
"I am not lying!"
"What happened to the guy who woke up this morning who wanted to go on a picnic and seize the day?"
"You really want to know the truth? That thing you saw could have been anything, a piece of glass stuck in the bird's foot. Or it could have been nothing at all. I don't want to advocate false hope, Claire. That's all."
She goes into her shelter. "Well, I'm sorry that I bothered you with my stupid ideas. It won't ever happen again. And Charlie, I don't want my baby around liars."
"I think you might be overreacting."
"Overreacting? No, I thought you were here for me, that I could count on you. But I was wrong," she says.
"No. Claire!"
"No, I'm on my own and at least I know that now."
"Claire!"
"Just go!"
Claire's Flashback - Daddy?
Claire walks down the hallway of the hospital. At the nurses station one of the nurses says, "Good morning, dear. Oh I like your new doctor.""What new doctor?"
"Oh, the American. He's in with your mum now."
Claire goes into the room and sees a man. "Excuse me," she says.
He looks over at her. It's Christian Shephard. He seems taken aback when he sees that it's her.
She says, "The nurse said, are you a doctor?"
"Yes, I'm, um, very sorry. I shouldn't be disturbing...I was just leaving."
Lindsey walks in and says, "What are you doing here?"
"I was just on my way out."
"If Carol knew you were here--"
"She'd what?" he asks. "What would she do? She wouldn't be acting the way you are."
"Aunt Lindsey," Claire says, "what's going on here? Who is he?"
"It doesn't matter," she says and tells him to go.
"Maybe you should tell her, Lindsey. She has a right to know."
"Please," Lindsey says, "just leave us alone."
"You are not the arbiter here and these circumstances..."
They begin yelling at each other. Lindsey says that he's taking advantage of her sister.
Claire yells for them to stop. "Are you the one paying the bills?" Claire wants to know.
"Yes," he says.
"Then who are you?" Claire asks.
"I'm your father, Claire."
The Other Side
Sayid, Rousseau, and Kate watch Locke chop down a tree. They work together to make an X out of two large branches and prop a log up onto one of the pylons."The system appears to fire a sonic pulse when an object breaks the plane between two pylons. So, as long as we don't break the plane, we should be okay."
"Why don't we just use the plastic explosive you took?" Rousseau says.
"Be my guest," Locke says. "Do you want to go stick it on there?"
"Whoever climbs over, give those sensors a wide berth," Sayid says.
Kate says she'll go first and shimmies up the log. She makes it over the pylon and drops down.
Locke goes next. Kate looks at Mikhail.
Claire Wants Answers
Claire and Sun use a Bondi Beach T-shirt to diaper Aaron."You have every right to be upset," Sun tells Claire.
"It just doesn't make any sense," Claire says. "Desmond's never gone boar hunting before, and boar never come that close to the beach."
"Well, whatever is going on, they're still talking about it."
They look at Desmond and Charlie arguing.
"Will you watch him?" Claire asks Sun about Aaron.
"What are you going to do?"
"Get some answers." Claire walks away.
Claire's Flashback - A Visit From Christian
In a small shop, Claire pierces a girls ear. The door opens and she says, "I'll be with you in a sec."She asks for 10 dollars from the girl, then looks up to see that it's her father who had come in. She goes behind the counter. "What are you doing here?
"Buy you a cup of coffee?"
"I have nothing to say to you."
"Claire, I'm leaving tonight and I'll be out of your life forever. Just let me buy you one cup of coffee."
As they have coffee, Claire says, "So it's true?"
"Yes, it's true," Christian says.
"How'd you find out about the accident?" Claire says and he says that a doctor friend called him. "Why did she tell me you were dead?"
"I guess because I left her with so many wonderful memories," he says sarcastically. "Look, we had a fling. I was back in Los Angeles when she told me she was pregnant. When she told me she was going to have a baby, have you."
"You didn't want to see me?"
"No, no, I came out a bunch of times when you were little. I stayed over, gave you toys, I sang to you."
"Why'd you stop coming?"
"Because your aunt hates me and your mother didn't like the fact that I had another family.""Why'd you come, then? I mean, you could have just paid the bills from the States."
"I came over because I wanted to help. Claire, your mother is alive, but she's not really living. Now may be the time to look at other ways to relieve her pain. Now, it is illegal to turn off her machines, but I know some ways to achieve the same effect without facing the legal consequences."
"Just shut up! You didn't come here to help me. You came here to try and fix a mistake that you made."
"No, honey, that's not it."
"You think that just paying her bills makes you noble or something? You come down here and you try to get me to kill her? Just go! Go back to your real family." She gets up and throws her cup in the trash then turns around. "You know, you might be my father, but I don't even know your name. And I want it to stay that way."
She walks off and he goes after her. "Do not keep your mother alive for the wrong reasons. There is hope and there is guilt, and believe me, I know the difference. Bye, kid. It's great seeing you again." He walks away.
