A stereo plays a song and young Hurley walks down the steps with a toolbox. He puts the toolbox in front of a Camero and lays out tools.
His father comes out with a duffel bag. "You got this thing running yet, buddy?"
"Nah, but I got your tools all set."
"Let's see if we can get this thing started, okay?"
"I thought we needed a new carburetor," Hurley says.
"Slide behind the wheel."
Dad hands Hurley the keys. Hurley closes his eyes and turns the key in the ignition. The car doesn't start. He looks at his dad and says, "This is stupid. Without a carburetor it's never going to work."
"Having hope is never stupid," his father says. "You've got to believe that good things will happen and then they will. You understand what I'm saying?"
Hurley nods.
"In this world, son, you've got make your own luck.""Well," Hurley says, "what do you want to fix today?"
"We're going to have to put that on hold for a little while. I've got to go to Vegas. I got some work out there."
"What about the road trip?" Hurley asks.
"The Grand Canyon will still be there when I get back, little dude."
His dad gives him a candy bar. "I'm not supposed to," Hurley says, "Mom says."
"Live a little, Hugo, it's just a candy bar." Hurley's dad tells him to hold down the fort, then he gets on his motorcycle, waves, and drives away.
Scared
Hurley looks sad as he sits at Libby's grave and talks about what happened when he was taken by the Others. The Bus
Charlie tells Hurley, "Desmond said I was going to die. He told me he has these flashes, visions, whatever. And in them, I always die."Charlie looks at Hurley and says, "So this is the part where you tell me it's ridiculous, don't be daft, he's a nutter."
"I think he might be right," Hurley says. "And I think it might be my fault. I'm kind of cursed. Death finds me, Dude."
Vincent runs out of the jungle. "Vincent?"
"What do you got there, boy?" Hurley says.
"Is that an arm?" Charlie asks.
"Here, Vincent, come here, boy," Hurley says. Vincent turns and runs and Hurley says, "I think we need to get that."
"Yeah," Charlie says, "chase the dog with the skeletal arm into the creepy jungle. You be my guest."Hurley says, "Okay, if I'm not back in three hours, tell somebody," and runs into the jungle chasing and calling Vincent.
Vincent reappears and drops the arm. Hurley pulls a key attached to a rabbits foot from the skeletal fingers. Vincent barks and Hurley follows him to an overturned VW Bus. "Awesome."
Tricia Tanaka
In front of Mr. Clucks, a news woman speaks into a microphone. "It's everyone's fantasy, winning the lottery, untold millions falling into your lap. What would you do with all that money? Well one such lucky winner recently bought a chicken shack."Hurley stands on one side of the woman, looking very uncomfortable. Randy stands on the other side. "I'm Tricia Tanaka with Hugo Reyes. So, Hugo, I think the question on everyone's mind is, why did you buy Mr. Clucks?"
"Uh, I like chicken."
Tricia has a forced smile. "Also with us is Hugo's former boss and now employee, Randy Nations." Randy smiles.
"That's probably every working stiff's fantasy," Tricia says, "isn't it Mr. Reyes?" She puts the microphone in front of him and he shrugs. She looks at the camera man. "Okay, well Hugo, tell us what else you've done since you got on your lucky streak."
"Actually, I've kind of had some bad luck, too. My Grandpa Tito died of a heart attack, and the first house I bought my mom burned down, my friend Johnny ran off with my girlfriend, Starla. Oh and this guy jumped off my accountant's roof-"
"Cut," Tricia says, "what the hell was that? It's a puff piece Mr. Reyes, do you know what that is?"
"Yeah," Hurley says. "Sorry, Tricia Tanaka."
"Do you mind if we go inside and shoot some B roll?"
Hurley's eyes get big. "Oh, I don't know."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Randy says, "of course you can. He's just superstitious. You know, the ribbon isn't cut yet."
"Okay, let's go," Tricia says to her camera man. "God, I hate this! I always get the stupid stories." They go inside.
"Hey, you sure it's okay?" Hurley walks over to where Randy is unloading boxes from a Mr. Clucks van.
"Yeah, relax," Randy says.
"The safety guards are on the fryers?"
"Those fryers are stone cold. We don't even start cooking until tomorrow."
"Do you hear something?" Hurley says.
Inside, Tricia Tanaka is saying, "And then pan through. . ." She hears a whistling sound.
Outside, Hurley and Randy look to the sky. A meteor hits Mr. Clucks and debris goes everywhere. Covered in dust, Hurley looks at what is left of Mr. Clucks.
