Ben's Infection
A man puts a needle to Ben's back, and Jack bursts in and says, "I wouldn't do that."Ben opens his eyes and says, "The cavalry has arrived at last."
Jack looks at Ben's stitches. Ben looks up and sees Alex hovering in the doorway.
"I'd be much more impressed with you people if you had a good surgeon." Jack sits in front of Ben.
"We had an excellent surgeon, Jack, his name was Ethan."
"You have a very serious infection, Ben. That infected tissue needs to be excised, debrided, and you need to be monitored very closely from here on out. There might be nerve damage or any number of complications. You may not walk again."
"Your bedside manner leaves something to be desired, Jack."
"It's too bad you're stuck with me."
"Am I?"
"You need a doctor, Ben, someone to stay with you, bring you back to good health."
"Here we go again. I've already given you a ticket off this island, Jack, what's it going to cost me this time?"
"Right now, your people are in a room deciding whether or not to execute Juliet. You're going to stop it."
"Juliet doesn't care about you, Jack. Doesn't matter what she's done, no matter what you think, she's one of us."
"Do we have a deal, or not?"
"Does Isabel have a walkie?" he asks Alex.
"They're already in the meeting."
"Then get me something to write on."
Jack's Flashback - Achara's Gift
Jack sees Achara in a public place, and follows her. He goes into a room with a bunch of candles and tattoo equipment in it."You're following me." Achara looks very upset.
"What is all this?"
She lights a candle. "This is where I work and you shouldn't be following me."
"This is a tattoo parlor. This is your big secret? The envelopes? Your gift?"
"I am not a tattoo artist. I'm able to see who people are. My work is not decoration, it is definition. And this, this is my gift."
"So, you see who people are?"
"Yes, and I mark them."
"So tell me who I am!"
"No." She backs up, looking panicked.
"Why not?" He walks toward her.
"'Cause you're an outsider."
"So you can sleep with me..."
"I'm not involved."
He pushes her up against the wall. "Do you see who I am, Achara?"
"Yes."
"Who am I?"
"You are a leader, a great man. But this, this makes you lonely, and frightened, and angry."
"Good. Now put it on me. Put it on me!"
"No, this is against my people!"
He sits her down and takes off his shirt.
"There will be consequences, Jack."
"There always are."
She is upset as she begins to mark him.
Juliet's Sentence Hearing
Jack and Alex run to a room, but Alex says he shouldn't be there and to stand back and not say anything.She takes a deep breath and knocks on the door. Tom opens it and says, "Alex," then he sees Jack. Juliet sees Jack from inside the room.
Tom grabs Jack, "What the hell did you bring him here for?"
"Let him go, Tom," Isabel says. "What's going on, Alex?"
"This is from Ben." She hands Isabel a note.
"Ben has commuted Juliet's sentence," Isabel says. "Execution is off the table. He says the rules don't apply."
Jack looks down, relieved.
"He has, however, ordered her to be marked." Isabel goes back into the room.
