Viewing
Episode 3x22, Through the Looking Glass - Flash Forward 4Listening to loud music, Jack drives down the road. He pulls the newspaper from his pocket and looks at it again. He pulls to the side of the road and calls someone on his cell. He gets out and walks across the street, not bothering to wait for traffic.
He goes into a funeral home and sees a casket and empty chairs.
A man walks in with flowers. "Can I help you?"
"I'm sorry, I uh...Is the funeral over?"
"There was no funeral, sir, only a viewing. No one showed up."
"Nobody?"
"Nobody. Just you. My deepest condolences. Friend or family?"
"Neither."
"Would you like me to open it up?"
"No."
"Take your time." He walks out.
Jack walks to the casket and puts his hand on it. He opens his pill bottle and there is only one pill left. He swallows it and walks out.
The Woman Wakes
Episode 3x22, Through the Looking Glass - Flash Forward 5Jack tries a couple of keys until one unlocks a medical cabinet. He looks around, then takes some Oxycodone. He swallows one and puts the rest in his pocket. He goes out and hangs the key.
He looks around and knocks some files on the floor. As he picks them up, Dr. Hamill comes up behind him and asks what he's doing. Jack says he was just checking some charts to see how the operation went.
"I left three messages on your voice mail. You didn't get them?"
"My phone's broken."
"Let's go in my office, Jack."
"For what?"
"We need to have a talk."
"You know, I know that you're new around here and you don't know much about me--"
"I know enough. So let's just walk down to my office--"
"If you've got something to say to me, say it to me right here."
"Mrs. Arlynn, the woman you saved, woke up in recovery about two hours ago. She was in some pain, but highly responsive to the reflex test and entirely lucid."
"That's great."
"But then she described the series of events that caused her accident. She says she was driving over the bridge when she saw a man standing on the railing, about to jump off. She was distracted, lost control of her car, she ran into the median, rolled over, and was hit by the van behind her. So the obvious question here, Jack, is how did you get to that flaming car so fast? What were you doing on that bridge?"
"You know how many years I've worked at this hospital? Do you know anything about me? Do you have any idea what I've been through?"
"How much have you had to drink today, Jack?"
"Okay, I'll tell you this. You get my father down here. Get him down here right now, and if I'm drunker than he is, you can fire me. Don't look at me like that. Don't pity me."
"I'm trying to help you."
"You can't help me!"
Kate
Episode 3x22, Through the Looking Glass - Flash Forward 6Jack sits on the floor in a messy apartment, holding his cell phone. He takes a drink, then dials the phone. There is a woman on the other end.
"Hello," Jack says. "It's me. Wait, don't hang up. Please. I know what you said, I just need to see you. Please. Yeah, out at the airport. You know where. Thank you."
Jack drives to the airport and waits in his car. Another car drives in. The person gets out and walks toward Jack. It's Kate.
"Hey," she says. "Saw you on the news. Still pulling people out of burning wreckage, huh?"
"Old habits."
"You look terrible."
"Thanks," Jack says.
"Why did you call me, Jack?"
Jack hands her the newspaper clipping. "I thought maybe you'd heard. I thought maybe you'd go to the funeral."
"Why would I go to the funeral?"
Jack nods. She gives him back the clipping.
"I've been flying a lot," Jack says. "That golden pass that they gave us, I've been using it. Every Friday night I fly from Los Angeles to Tokyo, or Singapore, or Sydney. And I get off and I have a drink, and then I fly home."
"Why?"
"Because I want it to crash, Kate. I don't care about anybody else on board. Every little bump we hit, or turbulence, I actually close my eyes and I pray that I can get back."
"This is not going to change," Kate says.
"No, I am sick of lying. We made a mistake."
"I have to go. He's going to be wondering where I am."
He grabs her. "We were not supposed to leave."
"Yes we were," Kate says. "Bye, Jack."
He watches her leave. "We have to go back, Kate!"
She looks at him with a look of pity, then gets in her car and drives away.
We Have to Go Back!
Episode 4x13, There's No Place Like Home Part 2 - Flash Forward 1Jack yells to Kate, "We have to go back!"
Kate slams on the brakes and drives back to Jack. She gets out and says, "We have to go back? We have to go back? Who do you think you are?" She is crying as she yells. "You call me for two days straight, stoned on your pills, and then you show up here with an obituary for Jeremy Bentham. When he came to me and I heard what he had to say, I knew he was crazy. But you, you believed him."
"Yes."
"Him of all people."
"Yes, Kate, I did, because he said it was the only way I could keep you safe. You and Aaron."
She slaps him across the face. "Don't you say his name. I still have to explain to him why you are not there to read to him. So don't you say his name!"
"I'm sorry."
"I've spent the last three years trying to forget all the horrible things that happened on the day we left. How dare you ask me to go back." She walks to her car, gets in, and drives away.
