Episode 4x9, The Shape of Things to Come - Flash Forward 1
Ben shakes his head vigorously and then opens his eyes, panting. He's laying on the desert floor in a thick Dharma jacket. He sits up. He's in the Sahara Desert. He gets to his hands and knees, then throws up. There is a gash in his jacket.
Two men ride up on horses. They yell at him in a foreign language and point guns at him. They speak to each other. Ben puts up his hands, "Wait, I can explain. Do you speak English?" Ben begins speaking in another language. One man gets off his horse and wants Ben to take off the jacket. He pats Ben down.
Ben pulls a rod out of his pocket, and quickly turns and hits the man behind him. He manages to get the man in a choke hold and get control of the gun, which he points at the man on the horse and shoots. He turns the gun on the other man who says, "Surrender, surrender!"
"Oh, so you do speak English," Ben says. He knocks the man out. He takes some cloth from one of the men and wraps it around his arm. He gets on a horse and rides away.
Episode 4x9, The Shape of Things to Come - Flash Forward 2
Ben walks through Tozeur, Tunisia. He goes to a desk and rings the bell. He tells the woman he would like a room. She asks if it's his first time in Tunisia. He says no, but it's been awhile.
"Your name?"
He hands her his ID. "I'm actually a preferred guest. It should be under Dean Moriarty"
She looks in her book and then looks up at him suspiciously. "Certainly, Mr. Moriarty." She gives him a key.
He asks the date and she says, "October 24, sir."
"2005?"
"Yes, sir. 2005"
He thanks her and walks away. He sees Sayid on a TV being followed by reporters. Sayid says, "I just want to bury my wife in peace."
Episode 4x9, The Shape of Things to Come - Flash Forward 3
A funeral procession, with pictures of Nadia, travels along a street in Tirkit, Iraq. Ben parks a car and then goes up to a roof. He watches a man sipping a drink, leaning against the corner of a building.
Ben pulls out a camera with a telephoto lens and snaps pictures of the man. As the funeral procession comes through, Ben begins to take pictures of Sayid helping to carry the casket. Sayid spots him, and Ben quickly puts his camera away and runs down the stairs. He runs toward his vehicle, but is tackled by Sayid.
"You vultures!" Sayid yells. "You followed me to Turkit! You spy on me!" He is about to punch Ben when he suddenly realizes who Ben is. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to find the man who murdered your wife," Ben says.
Sayid pulls Ben up and asks, "How did you get here?"
"I came across the Serbian border. It's really not as difficult as-"
"How did you get off the island?"
"Your friend Desmond had a boat. Remember, the Elizabeth. I followed a heading to Fiji, then I chartered a plane."
"Why now?"
"You remember the name Charles Widmore, don't you? The man who tried to convince the world that your plane was on the bottom of the ocean?"
"What does it have to do with me? With Nadia?"
"There was a man at her processional. He goes by the name of Ishmael Bakir. He's one of Widmore's men." Ben pulls a picture from his pocket. "Bakir was last seen five days ago in Los Angeles." He shows Sayid the picture of Bakir behind the wheel of a car. "Caught by a traffic camera, speeding away from the corner of La Brea and Santa Monica."
Sayid looks at the picture. "That's three blocks from where Nadia was killed."
Ben nods. Sayid fights back tears. "Why would these people want to murder her?"
"I don't know," Ben says. "But they did."
Sayid crumples the picture.
Episode 4x9, The Shape of Things to Come - Flash Forward 4
Ben sits in a bar in Iraq, watching Ishmael Bakir in a mirror. Bakir leaves, and Ben goes after him. He follows Bakir through busy streets and sidewalks. He loses him and walks into an alleyway. Bakir comes up behind him and puts a gun in his back. "Who are you and why are you following me?"
"My name is Benjamin Linus." Bakir seems to recognize the name. "And I need you to take a message to Mr. Widmore for me."
"And what message is that?"
Bakir is shot and falls to the ground to reveal Sayid with a pistol. Sayid shoots him six more times, and continues to pull the trigger even after the clip has been emptied.
"That should do it," Ben says and walks away.
"Wait," Sayid says.
Ben turns to face him. Sayid says, "Where do you think you're going?"
"We're finished here, Sayid. Turn around and walk away. Mourn your loss, get on with your life."
"I have no life. He took it from me."
"Go home, Sayid. Once you let your grief become anger, it will never go away. I speak from experience. This is my war, not yours."
Sayid grabs him and says, "I spent the last eight years of my life searching for the woman I love. I finally found her and I married her. Then I buried her yesterday, so don't tell me this is not my war. Benjamin, who's next?"
"I'll be in touch." Ben walks away with a little smirk on his face.
