Baby Doctor
Episode 2x16, The Whole Truth - Flashback 3Sun and Jin are in a doctor's office. The doctor comes in and says hello. He asks Sun how her father is doing. She says he is doing well.
"I'm afraid the news is not good," Dr. Kim tells them. "The ultrasound showed advanced endometriosis, scar tissue, blocking the fallopian tubes. I'm afraid that, even with surgery, the chances of conceiving are impossible."
"Can't you fix this?" Jin says. "There must be something you can do."
The doctor says he can't do anything. Jin stares at the floor and says, "Did you know about this before we got married?"
"What?" Sun says.
"You must have had some idea," he says.
"Why would I keep something like this from you? Oh yeah," she says sarcastically, "I was trying to trap the son of a fisherman."
Jin pushes a bunch of papers off the doctor's desk and stomps out.
America or Stay?
Episode 2x16, The Whole Truth - Flashback 4"Sun, are you all right?" Jae asks in English. She says she's fine, but he points out that she was distracted for their entire lesson.
She tells him that they had been to the doctor and that she cannot have children. He says he is sorry and she says, "I was glad."
In Korean he says, "Why are we here?"
"Because you're teaching me English," she says.
"You've been practically fluent for a month now. Why are you learning English?"
"Because I'm moving to America."
"Jin," Jae says. "You're going to leave him. I ran away to America for a woman because I thought I was in love. But you can't run away from your life."
"And Jin?" she says. "Is he my life? I should stay because-"
Jae gets very close and says, "I'm not saying you should stay for Jin."
The Truth
Episode 2x16, The Whole Truth - Flashback 5Sun walks her dog and a car pulls up along the side walk. It's Dr. Kim and he asks her to get in the car. She asks why and he says he needs to speak to her.
Sun acts nervous and starts to walk away. He gets out of his car and says, "Wait, please!" He runs up to her and says, "It's not you that can't have children. It's him. It's your husband."
He explains that he couldn't say it was Jin because Jin works for her father. "If I told a man like him he couldn't - he would burn my practice to the ground!"
Sun wants to know why he is telling her now and he says, "Because you deserve to know the truth."
Caught
Episode 3x2, The Glass Ballerina - Flashback 2Sun lies in bed and Jae sits up. "What's wrong?" he asks.
"What's wrong is I'm married," she says.
He smiles. "Right, that." He kisses her and she says she can't, and she's sorry.
He pulls out a box of pearls. She says they are beautiful, but she can't wear them because of Jin.
"I don't want to share you anymore. Your English is excellent now, you can go to America."
There is a knock at the door. He asks if anyone knows she is here and she says no. A man from hotel staff opens the door and Jae yells at him. Mr. Paik walks in and Jae bows.
Mr. Paik walks farther in and sees Sun in the bed, covered only by a sheet. She looks completely ashamed. He tells her to get dressed.
Does Jin Know About Jae?
Episode 3x2, The Glass Ballerina - Flashback 3Sun looks at some kind of plate or something and Jin walks into the house. "You're home," she says.
She puts down the plate and walks over to take his coat. He walks on without speaking to her.
They sit at the table and she lights a candle. He asks about her day and she says it was fine.
Jin says that he saw her father today and that he called him son for the first time. She wants to know why.
"He wants me to deliver a message."
"Are you going to do it?" Sun asks.
"I have to."
She begs him not to.
"You think it's that simple?"
She wants to start a new life, go away.
"If we run away your father would-"
"He won't know where we are. And you won't have to do this anymore."
Jin slaps the table and stands. "I do it for you, Sun! I do this because your father expects it! I do this because that's what it takes to be married to you!"
"And what does it take to be married to you?" Sun asks.
Jin walks out. She asks where he's going and he says to deliver the message.
Jae Lee's Funeral
Episode 3x2, The Glass Ballerina - Flashback 4Sun stands a ways back from the funeral. There is a large picture of Jae and people paying their respects.
Mr. Paik walks up behind her and says that she shouldn't be there.
"Father," she says. "What are you doing here?" He says he does business with the young man's father and that he heard he jumped from a balcony. "He must have felt great shame," Mr. Paik says. "Go home to your husband."
She asks if he will tell Jin and Mr. Paik says it's not his place to tell him.
