Sun's Discovery

Episode 3x18, D.O.C. - Flashback 1
Sun walks across a walking bridge and her phone rings. It's Jin and they speak in Korean.

"Mrs. Kwon," he says.

"Jin? I'm still not used to 'Mrs. Kwon'."

"Well get used to it. You're a married woman now," he says.

"Guess what? I found amazing linens for the apartment."

"If you like them, I love them. I'm home right now. I stopped by on my lunch hour."

"How does it look?" Sun continues to walk.

"Lots of boxes. But I got the bed set up."

She laughs. "Why doesn't that surprise me?" She sits on a bench.

"I have to get back to the office. See you tonight."

"Mr. Kwon?"

"Yes, Mrs. Kwon?"

"I love you madly."

"I love you, too."

Sun hangs up the phone and lets out a happy chuckle. The woman sitting on the bench next to her looks intrigued. She points to a wedding announcement picture in the paper and says, "Is this you?"

Sun says it is and the woman congratulates her and says he's a handsome man. Sun says she's a lucky girl.

"Your father is Mr. Paik?" the woman says. "Of Paik Automotive? A very powerful family."

"I don't really have much to do with the family business," Sun says.

"What about your husband's parents?" the woman asks.

"His parents are dead," she says.

"Really?" the woman acts like she doesn't believe Sun.

"Who are you?" Sun asks.

The woman's words turn intense. "It would bring much shame if it was known that Mr. Paik's daughter married the son of a fisherman."

"I know that and it doesn't matter," Sun says.

"Really? Did you know he was also the son of a prostitute?"

"How dare you!"

The woman stands. "I will be back here in three days at five p.m. You will bring me one hundred thousand dollars. If you love your husband as 'madly' as you say, you will spare him the shame of learning the truth." She walks away.

Pictures

Episode 3x18, D.O.C. - Flashback 2
Sun unpacks pictures and Jin comes in with a tray. "Surprise!" he says. "I got your favorite, tofu soup."

"Thank you," she says. "Let me finish this box."

"We'll unpack later. Let's eat."

She holds two framed pictures. "Do you mind if I put this on the table?"

"Not at all." He walks over and looks at the pictures as he hugs her from behind. It's a picture of her with her parents when she graduated. "Even in a cap and gown, you're the sexiest woman I've ever seen."

"Don't you have any pictures of your family?"

"We didn't have a camera growing up."

"No pictures at all? Didn't your father leave you any?"

"No. I was in the army when he died."

"The army? You said your father died when you were sixteen."

Jin gets agitated. "No. I was in the army."

"But you told me--"

"You must have misunderstood! What is this about, Sun?"

"It's nothing. I'm sorry."

"Your soup is getting cold."

The Fishing Village

Episode 3x18, D.O.C.
Sun, looking very out of place in her fancy clothes, walks down a pier. She looks at a file, which includes a picture of Mr. Kwon, then at the man in the boat. "Excuse me," she says, "are you Mr. Kwon?"

He looks so happy to see her. "Yes. You must be Sun."

She seems happy that he knows of her. They go to his house and he gives her tea.

"Please," he says, "tell me about your wedding."

"It was beautiful. The happiest day of my life."

"And my son's too, I imagine."

"Mr. Kwon, why weren't you at the wedding?"

"What did he tell you?"

Sun looks down. "He told me you were dead."

Mr. Kwon looks sad.

"Why would he say that?" Sun asks.

"To avoid the shame of where he came from."

"And is that why you told him his mother died when he was a baby?"

"His mother, she was with many men. She left me with the baby. I raised him alone. I wasn't even sure I was the father. But who else would take care of him?" He wipes his hand on his shirt and then touches her chin. "You are so beautiful. It pleases me so much to meet you. You can never tell him that you met me or that his mother is still alive. Please! For me, do not. Do not make him suffer this shame."

Sun nods.

Money

Episode 3x18, D.O.C. Flashback 4
Sun looks up a flight of stairs in a professional building. She takes a deep breath and goes up.

Her father is in a meeting with three men and a woman announces to Mr. Paik that his daughter is here to see him.

One of the men congratulates her on her wedding. The men leave and her father asks why she is there.

She says she needs a favor and he smiles and asks what.

With difficulty, she asks for one hundred thousand dollars. His smile fades. He wants to know for what and she says she can't tell him.

"Why should I give you money without an explanation?"

She looks around. "Because my whole life I've pretended not to know what you do. I've allowed you to keep your control over me, pretend that everything is all right. I will continue pretending as long as you give me the money I am asking for, no questions asked."

"We do not live in a world where there are no questions asked!" he stands.

"I'm doing this to spare someone I love deep shame."

"Your new husband?"

He gives her the money.

"If the money is for your husband, it is he who will bear this debt. He will no longer be a floor manager. He will be working for me," Mr. Paik says.
