The Broken Glass Ballerina
Episode 3x2, The Glass Ballerina - Flashback 1A glass ballerina spins in front of a fireplace, then falls to the ground and shatters. A young girl of around nine looks horrified and runs out of the room.
Later, we see her playing the piano. Mr. Paik comes into the room and she stops playing. As he walks toward her, she steps backwards. He holds up a bag of broken glass and asks if she broke the ballerina.
She shakes her head and he asks who did. She answers the maid. He says that if the maid did it, he will have to fire her, does she understand?
The girl nods. Mr. Paik says, "Sun, who broke the ballerina?"
Sun says, "The maid did."
After College
Episode 2x5, …And Found - Flashback 1Sun looks very pretty in a nice dress with her hair pinned up. Her mother comes in and says, "You're not planning on wearing that, are you?"
Sun doesn't see anything wrong with what she is wearing. Her mother sees her heels and takes them away. "He might be shorter than you." She gives Sun a low heeled shoe.
"This is ridiculous, Mother," Sun says.
Her mother tells her that if she'd found a husband in college they wouldn't need a matchmaker and Sun remarks that she went to college to get a degree. Sun says she'll find a husband when the time is right. Her mother says, "Your father says the time is now."
Jae Lee
Episode 2x5, …And Found - Flashback 2Sun and her mother get out of the car. Sun's mother is telling her to keep her hands in her lap and not speak unless asked a direct question. They are greeted by the matchmaker, Mrs. Shin. The doorman, who happens to be Jin, opens the door and they go through.
Sun and her mother sit at a table with her date, Jae Lee, and his mother. Jae Lee owns the hotel and some others.
The mothers make small talk and the matchmaker says they should leave these two alone so they can get to know each other.
Jae Lee asks who is pressuring Sun more, her mother or her father. She answers, "My father, via my mother. What about you?"
"My father via my mother via my aunt via my grandmother." They talk about school and what they studied. He says he usually dreads these set-ups, but today is different.
"Yes, for me too," Sun says.
American Girl
Episode 2x5, …And Found - Flashback 3Sun sits alone at a table waiting for her date. Jin opens the door for a business man, then Jae Lee pulls up. Jin opens Jae's car door. Jae sees the flower on Jin's lapel and asks if he can borrow it for his date.
Jin gives it to him and Jae asks his name, then says, "Thank you, Mr. Kwon."
Sun and Jae have a great conversation and really enjoy each other's company. Sun says she can't believe how normal he is and he says that she is great too. Then he tells her a secret. He met an American girl in college and in six months he's moving to America to marry her. No one knows.
Sun struggles to hold her smile and he says, "Wait, you didn't think that-"
"Of course not," Sun says. "America. That's wonderful!"
He continues to try and explain, thinking that she thought there was something between them even though she denies it. She says she has an appointment and walks out, her face falling when her back is to him.
Jin and Sun
Episode 1x6, House of the Rising Sun - Flashback 1Sun is at an elegant evening party talking with friends. Jin is the waiter and offers her champagne. He keeps glancing at her as he serves other partygoers.
Later in the evening, Jin, still in his waiter clothing, approaches Sun and sneaks a kiss. She smiles, but quickly looks around. "He's busy being a host," Jin replies, presumably speaking of Sun's father.
Sun tells Jin that she wants to run away to America. Jin doesn't agree. He wants to ask Sun's father for her hand in marriage, but Sun thinks that will never work. Jin gives her a flower and they kiss.
The Proposal
Episode 1x6, House of the Rising Sun - Flashback 2Sun, long hair flowing behind her back, stands on a bridge and is approached by Jin. She asks how the talk with her father went. He says her father gave permission to him to have her hand in marriage. Sun throws her arms around Jin in an ecstatic hug. Jin tells her that he will have to do a year of management training and work in her father's factory. Sun isn't too happy about this, but is much happier when Jin produces a diamond ring.
Jin and Sun's Wedding
Episode 5x16, The IncidentSun holds a ring and says her vows during her marriage to Jin. "I have loved you since the day we first met," she says in Korean. "I'll love the man you will become as we spend our lives together. With this ring, I make my promises." She smiles at him.
"I wrote mine down," he says and pulls a paper out of his pocket. "We will never be apart, because being apart form you would be like the sky being apart from the earth. With this ring I make my promises." They kiss and the audience claps.
In the receiving line, Sun's aunt asks when they are going to start a family and Sun says maybe on their honeymoon.
Jacob walks up next and says in Korean, "I'd like to offer you my blessing. Love is a very special thing. Never take it for granted."
After he walks away, Sun says, "Who was that?"
"I don't know, but his Korean is excellent."
