Stepdaughter
Episode 2x6, Abandoned - Flashback 1Shannon is in a dance studio teaching young girls ballet. Her cell phone rings. The woman on the other end says, "Shannon, your father has been in an accident. I'm on my way to St. Sebastian's. I'll meet you there.
At the hospital, Jack stomps off in the background while another doctor approaches Shannon and her stepmother. "Mrs. Rutherford?" the doctor asks and Shannon's stepmom answers.
The doctor explains that Shannon's dad was in a head-on collision with an SUV. He suffered massive internal injuries and stopped breathing at the site of the accident. They were unable to resuscitate him.
Shannon begins to cry and Mrs. Rutherford says, "May I see him?" The doctor asks if her daughter would like to come and she says, "Stepdaughter."
Resentment
Episode 2x6, Abandoned - Flashback 2Shannon looks at her father's casket and Boone comes up behind her. "Death sucks, doesn't it?" he says.
Shannon is happy to see him and they hug. "You came back!" Shannon says. Mrs. Rutherford is in the background scowling at their embrace.
Later, in Shannon's room, Boone pours alcohol from a flask into toy tea cups. He asks Shannon where the poster of Marky Mark went. Shannon points out that she's eighteen.
Boone wants her to come visit him in New York, and she tells him that she's trying to get a job at the Martha Graham dance company and if she does, she'll be living in New York.
Boone asks how Shannon is getting along with his mother and she says, "From day one she resented my relationship with him, my dad."
The Letter
Episode 2x6, Abandoned - Flashback 3Shannon's roommate, Dominique, gives her a letter and says, "It finally came."
Shannon wants Dominique to open it, but Dominique says, "You have been waiting six months for this letter, no way I'm opening it."
Shannon opens and reads the letter. "I got it!" she screams and they both jump around screaming.
The phone rings and Shannon gets off the phone to tell Dominique that her rent check bounced.
"But you're, like, rich," Dominique says.
Later, at her father's house, Shannon's stepmother, Sabrina, says that she would offer Shannon a drink but she has a meeting in 10 minutes. Shannon asks why her checks are bouncing and Sabrina says that's what happens when you make withdrawals and don't make deposits.
Shannon asks when she'll get the money from the will and Sabrina says that there is no will, they had a living trust. Everything went to Sabrina.
Shannon asks why her father would do that and Sabrina says that maybe he wanted Shannon to find her own way and that she's going to have to work.
Shannon says she can't work, she just got a prestigious internship. She won't make money for awhile, but she'll be working 16 hour days.
Sabrina says, "This week it's an internship. Last year, what was it? Interior design?
Shannon asks for a loan but Sabrina says no because Shannon will never pay her back and then, "You'll hate yourself even more."
"I really want this, Sabrina. I can do this."
"I'm sorry, Shannon, you're on your own."
On Her Own
Episode 2x6, Abandoned - Flashback 4Shannon is in her apartment packing and Boone comes in. He says, "She said no. She knew why I asked for the money."
Shannon asks if she can stay with him in New York until she gets on her feet. Boone is leaving New York. His mother offered him a job. He gives Shannon some money, all he has until his trust fund kicks in next month, but she doesn't take it. She'll figure out a way to make her own money.
Boone really wants her to take the money and she thinks it's because he doesn't believe she can make it on her own.
Arab Guy
Episode 1x23, Exodus Part 1Flashback 1Shannon is in the airport, her legs spanning across three seats. She's doing a crossword puzzle. A man she hasn't yet met, Sayid, puts his bag next to her and asks if she will watch it for him. He'll be right back. She says, "Yeah, whatever," without hardly looking at him.
Boone comes and says that he couldn't get them into first class and that she shouldn't have yelled at the gate agent. Shannon gets mad at him and they argue. They leave the seats and go up the escalator. They continue to argue and Shannon says she can get him thrown off this flight.
Boone doesn't believe her and she flags down an airport cop and says, "Some Arab guy just left his bags in the chairs downstairs and then just walked away."
