Omar
Episode 1x9, Solitary - Flashback 1Sayid is torturing a man, while Sayid's superior looks on. Outside the interrogation room, Sayid and his superior, Omar, exchange friendly chatter. Omar tells Sayid that he's doing a great job and will soon be transferred to intelligence. Sayid seems happy about the move. As he's talking to Omar, Sayid's attention is caught by a woman being led past by two soldiers.
Nadia
Episode 1x9, Solitary - Flashback 2Omar takes Sayid to the interrogation room and tells him to find out about the bombing. Sayid goes in and finds the woman whom he saw earlier. Her name is Nadia and the two were childhood friends.
She tells Sayid that this is not her first interrogation and shows him the scars on her arms and holes in her hands. He asks her the questions, but she doesn't answer. "Then I'm going to hurt you."
"I know," she answers.

Episode 1x9, Solitary - Flashback 3Sayid sneaks bread into Nadia's cell. He begs her to identify someone. He is sure he can get her released if she does. "Then I won't have these visits to look forward to anymore," she says.
"This is not a game," Sayid says.
"Yet you keep playing it," she answers.
Nadia's Escape
Episode 1x9, Solitary - Flashback 4Omar tells Sayid to execute Nadia. Sayid leads her to the execution room and excuses the other guards, telling them that he'll handle it. He takes off her mask and tells her there is a truck leaving for Baghdad. Omar comes in and asks what is going on. Sayid shoots Omar. Nadia begs Sayid to come with her, but he says that Saddam will kill his family if he leaves. She scribbles something on the back of a photograph and hurries out.
