Extra Blankets
Episode 4x8, Meet Kevin Johnson - Flashback 1Michael is in a bad part of town in a rundown apartment writing in a notepad. He looks at a picture of himself and baby Walt. He goes out to his car and gets inside and starts it. It's Getting Better is playing on the radio. He pins the note paper to his shirt, then takes off, speeding in the car. He mutters that he's sorry and then speeds up and drives into a large dumpster, totalling the car.
Michael opens his eyes. He's in a hospital with a neck brace on and a tube in his nose. He looks over at a guy sleeping in the next bed over. A nurse walks in with blankets and says, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you, Mr. Dawson."
"Is -- what happened to me?"
"You were in a car accident. It's a miracle you're alive."
"How badly was I hurt?" He finally looks at the nurse. It's Libby!
"It's a cold night," she says, "I brought you some extra blankets."
Michael screams and opens his eyes. He's in the same hospital, next to a sleeping man, but there is no Libby. A nurse walks in and says, "Let's get some light in here," and flips on the light. "I thought I heard someone shout, and something tells me it wasn't him. You okay?" She changes his saline bag. "The EMTs say they found you in a wrecked car with a note pinned to your chest. You didn't have any ID on you. You want to tell me your name?"
Michael doesn't answer and she says, "Yeah, I didn't think so. You want me to call Walt?"
He looks at her. "What?"
"The note pinned to your chest, it was written to Walt. You want me to call him?"
"No."
"Okay, then." She walks out.
Later, Michael goes to a house and knocks on the door. A woman answers and he says, "Hey, Ma. Can I come in?"
She steps out and closes the door. "No. You know the answer to that."
"I want to see him."
"No."
"Just let me talk-"
"I don't know what you said to that boy, but whatever it was, he doesn't want to see you."
"Please, Ma, he's my son. I have a right-"
"I thought you were dead. They said your plane crashed in the middle of the ocean, but you show up here fine and dandy. Only, I can't tell anybody about you or Walt. Can't call you by your real names. He barely talks to me. But he does wake up screaming in the middle of the night and I'm the one that's got to tell him that it's going to be okay. So, until you can explain to me," she says, "where you were for over two months and what happened, you gave up your rights!"
Michael says, "Will you tell him I love him?"
She nods and he walks away. As he walks down the sidewalk, he sees Walt look at him through the upstairs window, but then leave when he sees Michael looking.
