Mousetrap
Episode 1x19, Deus Ex Machina - Flashback Scene 1Locke has a full head of brown hair. He is a store employee, setting up a game of Mouse Trap. A young boy walks over and asks what he's doing. Locke tells the boy that this was his favorite game. He used to play with his brother. He shows the boy how to play.
Locke notices a woman watching him and goes to talk to her. He asks if he can help her. She wants to know where the footballs are.
"Aisle 8 for regulation, aisle 15 for Nerf."
She thanks him and goes down the aisle. The boy traps the mouse in the Mouse Trap game.
Your Mother
Episode 1x19, Deus Ex Machina - Flashback Scene 2Locke is leaving work and goes out to his car. He sees the same woman again, and chases after her. A car backing out of the space hits him, but he jumps up and keeps running. When he catches her he asks who she is.
"I am your mother."
The two go to a diner and Locke says, "Look, miss, I don't know why you think I'm your son, or how you found me, but-"
She interrupts to ask if he was adopted. He says no, that he moved from foster home to foster home. She seems upset by this. He wants to know what she wants from him.
"I want to tell you that you're special, very special. You're part of a design. You do realize that, don't you? That our meeting, me finding you, this is a sign of things to come. Great things."
Locke asks about his father and if he's still alive. "Oh, John," she says, "don't you understand? You don't have a father. You were immaculately conceived.
Emily Annabeth Locke
Episode 1x19, Deus Ex Machina - Flashback Scene 3Locke is in the break room of the store with a Private Investigator. "Emily Annabeth Locke," the PI says. The DNA samples match, she is Locke's mother. Locke asks about his father, but the PI doesn't want to tell him. Emily sought Locke out, so she's fair game, but his father might want nothing to do with him.
Locke insists and the PI gives him a folder.
Locke drives to a gated estate and tells the guard that he's Anthony Cooper's son. "Mr. Cooper doesn't have a son," the guard says.
Locke says to tell him that he doesn't want anything and that his mother is Emily Locke. The guard gets on the phone and after a minute let's Locke in.
Locke meets his father. He seems happy to see Locke. He says that he didn't know Locke existed until a year after he was born. Emily wasn't going to have the baby, then she just disappeared. She turned up again later asking for money saying that she put the baby up for adoption.
Anthony wants to know if Locke has a family of his own and Locke says no. "Me either. I tried it a couple of times, didn't take."
Anthony asks if Locke hunts, and when Locke says no, Anthony wonders if he's one of those "animal rights nut jobs." Locke says that he's not, and Anthony invites him to go hunting on Sunday.
Dialysis
Episode 1x19, Deus Ex Machina - Flashback Scene 4Locke pulls up to the gate at Anthony's house. He's now on a first name basis with Eddie, the guard. Eddie asks if they are shooting birds today and Locke says they are.
When he goes in the house he finds his father hooked up to a dialysis machine. "You weren't supposed to be here until noon," Anthony says.
Locke says, "I thought you said eleven. What is this?"
Anthony explains that he needs a kidney transplant. He's on a waiting list, but it's a long list. The dialysis will work for awhile and he didn't want to tell Locke and put a damper on their day.
Still Time
Episode 1x19, Deus Ex Machina - Flashback Scene 5Locke and his father are hunting and Anthony is explaining how to shoot a bird. Locke shoots one easily and Anthony congratulates him. "John," Anthony says, "your mother, she may be a little crazy, but at least she brought us together. Thank God it happened now, while we still have time. Let's find your bird."
Other Side
Episode 1x19, Deus Ex Machina - Flashback Scene 6Locke and his dad are in hospital beds. "I'm so thankful for you, John," Anthony says. Locke says it was meant to be, and Anthony says, "See you on the other side."
No Guests
Episode 1x19, Deus Ex Machina - Flashback Scene 7Locke wakes up in the hospital. He looks over at his father's bed, but it's empty. A nurse says that Mr. Cooper checked out already and is having private care at home. Locke says it doesn't make any sense.
"It was his idea," Emily Locke says. She comes into the room and explains that she needed money, so as usual, she went to Anthony. He made her help him to get Locke to give up his kidney.
Locke goes to Anthony's house, but Eddie says that he's not seeing guests. "I'm not a guest," Locke says and the guard apologizes.
Locke drives away, but doesn't get far before he collapses on the steering wheel and sobs.
