Liam Sells the Piano
Episode 1x12, Fire + Water - Flashback 5Charlie returns home to find that his piano is gone. He yells for Liam and Liam says he sold it. He needed the money. Charlie asks if it went up his arm and Liam says that he's been clean for two days. Karen was going to leave him, so he sold the piano to get money to take Karen and Megan to Australia where Karen's uncle has a job for Liam, and there is a rehab clinic in Sydney.
"I just needed the money to get us there," Liam says. "I have to do this. I have to take care of myself for them. For my family."
"I'm your family!" Charlie says.
Liam leaves and Charlie follows, asking about the band and the song. Liam says that he has to do this and for Charlie to try to understand.
Charlie Meets Lucy
Episode 1x15, Homecoming - Flashback 1Charlie and his buddy, Tommy, are in an alley doing drugs. Tommy tells Charlie that their stash is getting low and Charlie better go back to work. Charlie doesn't think that DriveShaft will get back together, but Tommy has a plan.
Tommy takes Charlie into the pub and shows him a woman. "Lucy Heatherton, 22 and ripe in oh so many wonderful ways," he says. He explains to Charlie that she just graduated from Oxford and lives with her dad in Knightsbridge, her dad being Francis Pryce-Heatherton, "who, my friend, is bloody loaded."
Charlie wants to know how Tommy got this information, but Tommy just says, "Ready to fall in love, Mr. Charlie Pace of legendary rock band DriveShaft?"
"Absolutely," Charlie answers.
Charlie talks and jokes with Lucy and her friends, while DriveShaft's hit song plays on the jukebox.
Silver and Gold Case
Episode 1x15, Homecoming - Flashback 2Lucy brings Charlie to her home. As she makes tea, Charlie looks around, fingering the nice items. When Lucy returns, Charlie is looking at a silver and gold case and she says that it belonged to Winston Churchill and that her dad collects old rubbish from world leaders.
She is excited for Charlie to meet her father and invites him to dinner.
Dinner With Dad and Lucy
Episode 1x15, Homecoming - Flashback 3Charlie eats a fancy dinner with Lucy and her father. Her father says that he was in a band, but it broke up when he got married and Lucy was on the way. He asks when the next DriveShaft record is coming out.
Charlie says they are on hiatus because his brother, Liam, just had a baby and is taking time off. "Quite a lot of time off, actually. It's been a year since we were together. I think DriveShaft might be dead."
Lucy's father offers Charlie a job as a copy machine salesperson.
Charlie later meets with Tommy, who wants money for the drugs Charlie has been doing. Charlie says that he didn't steal anything and that he likes Lucy. Tommy is angry. Charlie says that he doesn't think Liam is coming back and that he needs to think about his future. He took a job selling copiers for Lucy's father.
Tommy says, "A weekend without a fix? Monday should be bloody wonderful. Let's see how the future treats you then, eh, Charlie?"
Charlie Swipes the Case
Episode 1x15, Homecoming - Flashback 4Charlie looks very uncomfortable in a new suit. He tells Lucy that she didn't have to buy it for him and she laughs and asks what he would otherwise wear to his first day. He is sweating and she asks if he's okay. He says yes, that it's just nerves.
Lucy walks out of the room and Charlie swipes the silver and gold Churchill case.
Charlie Tosses His Cookies
Episode 1x15, Homecoming - Flashback 6Charlie knocks on Lucy's door and when she answers, he apologizes. She says, "Tell me one thing, and don't you dare lie to me. I get why you pretended to like me. I understand why you stole, because you're a junky. But I don't understand why you took the job. Why did you take the job, Charlie?"
Charlie explains that he wanted to be respectable. He wanted to show her that he could take care of her. She says, "You'll never take care of anyone!"
Liam in Sydney
Episode 1x7, The Moth - Flashback 5Charlie knocks on the door of a nice looking house. A clean cut Liam answers the door looking much better than when we last saw him. Charlie says he wants to get the band back together and he has booked a tour, but Liam refuses, saying he has a new life with his wife and daughter. He wants Charlie to stay with them and get help since he has obviously been using. Charlie refuses.
Meeting Claire
Episode 3x21, Greatest Hits - Flashback 5After things calm down after the crash, Charlie sees a very pregnant Claire. He walks over with a blanket. "Hiya. Do you want a blanket?"
"Oh, thanks, I've got one."
"You're warming for two. Take mine."
"Thank you." She takes it.
He sits next to her and says, "So, first plane crash?"
"What gave it away?"
"I can always spot the newbies," he says. "We're going to be okay, you know."
"We are?"
"We're alive on a beautiful island. We'll sleep under the stars, and before you know it, the helicopters will come and take us all home."
"You really think they'll find us?"
"Well yeah, why wouldn't they?"
"Thanks."
He introduces himself.
