Flashbacks in Italics
A shirtless Jin comes out of his tent, followed by Sun who happily snuggles against his back. They both look at Hurley and when Sun looks away, Hurley gives Jin a thumbs up. Sun watches Sayid use a piece of log to dig a grave.
In the hatch, Jack changes Sawyer's bandage. Sawyer is out of it, but whispers, "Where is she?"
"You mean Kate?" Jack asks. "She's been watching over you for the past 24 hours straight. The only way I could get rid of her was to send her out to get some food for you."
Sawyer whispers something that Jack doesn't quite hear. He whispers it again. "I love her."
Jack sits down, a mixture of shock and disappointment on his face.
Horse in the Jungle
Kate is up in a tree, gathering fruit. As she comes down, she almost falls, which causes her to drop some of the fruit. As she picks up the fruit she looks up to see a beautiful black horse. She is shocked, but takes a step toward the horse. It whinnies and canters off.Kate's Flashback - Kate and the Zippo
A younger Kate sits on the steps outside a house, playing with a Zippo lighter. A truck pulls up, playing country music, and a drunk man gets out.She helps the man, Wayne, inside and lays him on the bed. She takes off his shoes and socks. He tells her she is beautiful. She starts to cover him and he says, "Aren't you going to take my pants off first?" He grabs her arm and says, "You are beautiful."
She jerks her arm away and says, "Good night."
Kate gets on her motorcycle, pauses a moment, then drives off. Moments later, the house explodes.
Kate goes to a diner and her mother is working. She asks Kate, "Coffee, pie, or both?"
"How 'bout a beer?" Kate says.
Diane says, "I'd like to see some I.D."
"I'm twenty-four, Ma."
Diane tells Kate that if she wants to ride around in that death trap without a helmet, Diane is not helping her by getting her drunk. Kate asks how her mother's wrist is and Diane starts to give her an excuse. Kate stops her.
"I made my bed, Katherine," Diane says.
"Well, your bed's gone, Ma," Kate says.
Kate gives her an envelope and says it's an insurance policy for the house.
"What did you do?" Diane asks. "Does Wayne know about this?"
Kate gets up to leave. "Just remember that you were here and you didn't see me, okay?"
"Katherine, what did you do?"
"I took care of you, Ma. I've got to go and you're not going to see me for awhile." Kate hugs her and leaves while Diane is still asking what she did.
Kate to Watch Sawyer
Kate doesn't look so good when she comes back to the hatch. Jack asks if she's okay and she says she's just tired and asks how Sawyer is doing."His fever is still up there," Jack says. "I can't tell if the antibiotics are working. It'll help to get some food in him."
He tells her she should go to the beach for Shannon's funeral. "I was actually thinking that I should stay and watch Sawyer."
Jack wants to stay with him, but Kate says he should go to the funeral. Jack agrees and tells Kate to keep Sawyer hydrated and mash up some fruit for him. Everyone will be at the beach, "so don't forget the button."
Ana-Lucia's Camp
Ana-Lucia sets up a camp for herself a ways away from the main camp. Eko comes and says he's going to go to the funeral. "I don't think I'm going to make it," she says."I think most of them realize it was an accident, Ana," Eko says.
Shannon's Funeral
People gather around the grave. Sayid says, "Shannon and I were strangers. We never would have met if...We wouldn't even have spoken if...But we did meet and we did speak. I loved her." He walks away.Jack picks up a handful of sand and says, "May she rest in peace," and releases the sand into the grave. Everyone else follows suit.
