Day 1

We see a beautiful beach, nice clear water, and calm. All of the sudden, the tail section of the Oceanic plane falls out of the sky and into the water. The ocean erupts in chaos as people come to the surface and struggle to get to the beach. Among them, Ana-Lucia swims to shore. Eko, wearing a suit, drags a woman out of the ocean. Then he carries out a boy who is yelling for his sister, Emma.

Eko sees a girl face down in the water and drags her to the beach. Ana-Lucia leaves a man lying on the beach to help with Emma. Ana-Lucia administers CPR while Eko takes the boy away. The boy drops his teddy bear by his sister.

Once the girl is revived she asks where her mom is, but Ana-Lucia doesn't know.

"She's meeting us in Los Angeles," Emma says.

A man yells in the background, looking for his wife. Ana-Lucia tells Emma, "We're not there yet. I promise, we're going to get you home soon, okay."

People are running and yelling in general chaos and Eko takes Emma and her brother to one of the Flight Attendants, Cindy. Then he rolls up his sleeves and begins hauling dead bodies out of the ocean.

On another part of the beach, Libby cares for a man with a badly broken leg. She tells him a story of when she was in Vermont skiing and she went off this mogul and "Bam!", as she says the word, she snaps his leg back into place.

Ana-Lucia asks Libby if she is a doctor. Libby says, "A year of med school before I dropped out. I'm a clinical psychologist. You saved that girl's life, you a doctor?"

"No," Ana-Lucia says and a man named Goodwin comes out of the jungle, yelling for help.

Ana-Lucia runs to help and sees that Bernard, strapped into an airline seat next to a dead guy, is precariously perched in a tree.

Ana-Lucia gives him instructions to unbuckle his seat belt and grab the tree branch. He doesn't at first, but she talks him into it and then the seat falls with him hanging onto the branch. Ana-Lucia climbs up to get him.

Later, as the sun begins to set, Libby tends to the wounded and Goodwin attempts to start a fire by rubbing sticks together. He tells Ana-Lucia that he is in the Peace Corps.

Eko is off by himself and Bernard gives him a description of his wife, Rose, and asks if Eko found her body. Eko says, "No." Eko says he will pray for Rose.

That night, as everyone sleeps, they hear grunting noises in the bushes. Goodwin grabs a stick from the fire and Ana-Lucia tells Libby to watch the kids. Goodwin and Ana-Lucia find Eko, bloody, holding a rock, and standing between two dead bodies.

"What happened?" Ana-Lucia asks.

Eko gets up and walks away.

Day 2

The Tailies gather around the two dead men. Ana-Lucia searches them. They are wearing rudimentary clothes and have no wallets, cell phones, or identification.

Eko is off by himself and Ana-Lucia goes over and asks if he's okay, but he doesn't answer.

A man says that three people are missing, "The blond guy, the curly-haired guy, and the German who was helping us with the injured."

Ana-Lucia believes the dead guys were already on the island. "They're out here in the jungle with no shoes, nothing in their pockets, no labels on their clothes."

Eko pulls a small tree out of the ground and begins making it into some kind of club or walking stick.

Ana-Lucia wants to get off the beach and find a safer place, but Nathan points out that they have children and they have wounded and what about a signal fire? Goodwin agrees with Nathan.

Ana-Lucia points out that there are satellites and black boxes and that the rescuers don't need a fire to find them. Cindy says that before the crash the pilot had lost communication and turned back. They were flying for two hours in the wrong direction, so rescuers don't know where to look.
