Flashbacks in Italics

In the distance we hear the boat driving away and Walt still yelling, "Dad!"

Sawyer comes up out of the water in front of the burning raft. He yells for "Mike" and Jin. Sawyer swims to a piece of raft debris and pushes it toward Michael. "Hang on, Mike!" Michael goes under and Sawyer grabs him and hauls him onto the wreckage. He pounds on Michael's chest.

Locke, Going Down

Locke is at the hatch just minutes after Kate disappeared. The bright light goes out and he yells her name, then begins to descend down the rope.

Sawyer Saves Michael

Sawyer hits Michael's chest, then performs CPR and revives Michael. As he comes to, Michael says, "Where's Walt?" Sawyer doesn't know. "Where is he? Where the hell is my son? Walt!"

Michael's Flashback - The Best Michael Can Afford

Michael meets with an attorney. Michael walks with a cane and the attorney asks what happened. "Got hit by a car," Michael says.

They look over the paperwork and Michael has to correct the lawyer on his last name, Dawson, not Don. He also corrects that Susan is not his ex-wife, she's just Walt's mother.

The attorney explains that Susan wants Michael to relinquish his rights as Walt's father so that her husband, Brian Porter, can adopt him. Michael doesn't want to let that happen and asks the attorney to file an injunction.

The attorney says, "Mr. Dawson, the fact that you came in through these doors, that tells me something. It tells me that I'm the best that you can afford. If we go forward with this, it's going to take money."

"They're not taking my son away," Michael says.

Conserve Energy

Michael yells for Walt, and Sawyer tells him to conserve his energy. Michael ignores him and continues to yell for his son.

Is Locke "Him"?

Locke gets to the bottom of the tunnel and makes his way through a corridor. His shoes squeak, so he takes them off and lines them up against the wall. He sees an octagon shaped logo with a silhouetted swan and the word "Dharma".

He quietly makes his way into the living quarters and hears Kate moaning. He finds her lying on the floor and goes to her. She looks behind him and he turns to see Desmond with an assault rifle pointed at them.

"Are you him? Are you him?" Desmond asks.
Locke looks as if he's trying to decide if "being him" is a good thing.

Who's Fault is It?

Sawyer yells for Jin. Michael thinks Sawyer is feeling guilty for making him use the flare. Sawyer doesn't think the mess they are in is his fault. Michael tells Sawyer, "Get off my raft."

"What?" Sawyer asks, not believing what he's hearing. Something knocks their piece of wreckage from below. "What the hell is that?" Underwater, a shark swims in front of the wreckage.

Sawyer pulls out the gun. Michael says it's not going to work because Sawyer was under water.

"What do you know about guns, anyway, Hoss?" Sawyer says. "It'll work." He slips bullets out of the magazine. "Bullets are dry, powder's dry." The raft is bumped again. Michael asks what it was and Sawyer says, "It's a shark. It's only a shark."

"It's only a shark," Michael says. "That supposed to make me feel better?" Michael says that the shark is hanging around because Sawyer's shoulder is bleeding.

"Oh, well, I'll just stop bleeding then. Did you suddenly forget what happened? Why I got shot?"

Sawyer is looking for gratitude, but Michael has none. Michael says Sawyer was just trying to save himself. Sawyer says, "You want me off this raft? You got it." Sawyer jumps off and swims to another piece of wreckage and climbs on.

"I was trying to save your damn kid," Sawyer says.
