Alone
Jin puts a rock in a space and Bernard yells at him. Jin gets mad and leaves. Bernard apologizes and asks Jin to come back. "Please," he says, "I just want to get my wife home. Rose. I just want to get Rose home."Jin apologizes and leaves Bernard alone.
Down the beach, Locke sits alone with his crutches next to him. Rose approaches him. Locke says, "I saw your husband walking through the jungle carrying rocks."
"He's building a big sign in the sand so the satellites will see it."
Locke chuckles.
Rose asks what Locke is doing down there. She says it's not often they see him out of the hatch.
"I'm done with the hatch," Locke says.
"Oh, now you're just frustrated," she says. "You'll be out of that splint and running around the island in no time."
"And yet Jack said it will be four weeks."
Rose looks at him. "But honey you and I both know it's not going to take that long."
Locke considers her words as they stare at each other. He smiles and looks across the water.
Rose's Flashback - No Healing
A woman leads Rose into a shed and says that Isaac will be right with her. There are several sets of crutches hanging from the ceiling and a wall covered with pictures and thank you cards addressed to Isaac."You must be Rose," a man says as he walks in.
Rose asks how it works, if he sits and chants, or prays, or what.
Isaac says, "There are certain places with great energy, spots on the earth like the one we're above now. Perhaps this energy is geological, magnetic. Or perhaps it's something else. And, when possible, I harness this energy and give it to others."He puts his hands in front of her face and closes his eyes. Suddenly he opens them, looks at her and says, "I'm sorry. I can't do anything for you, Rose."
She gets up and looks out the window. She sees Bernard talking to a little girl on crutches.
Isaac says, "It's not that you can't be healed, Rose. Like I said, there's different energies. This is not the right place for you."
"Where is?"
"I don't know," Isaac says. "I'll return your husband's donation."
"Don't," she says. "I'm going to tell him you fixed me."
The Medical Hatch
It's raining as Jack and Kate continue their trek. Jack asks what she meant when she said the Others were sophisticated.Kate admits that she and Claire found another hatch. She tells him of the clothes and of the makeup kit and the fake beard.
"When were you going to tell me this?" he asks.
"When you decided to let me back into the club."
Jack rolls his eyes and continues walking. "What?" Kate asks. "You can keep one of them locked up in the hatch for like a week and say nothing, but then when I decide-"
"We're here," Jack says. He walks out to the middle of the clearing and yells, "Hey! I'm back! You say you're watching us! You hear me? We've got your man! You want him back, you're going to have to come out here!"
Kate says they're not there. Jack says he's staying until they talk to him.
Rose's Apology
Bernard puts rocks on the S of the S.O.S. sign. Rose brings him supper. He tells her she can just set it down. She asks where everyone is and he gives her a dirty look."I owe you an apology," Rose says.
Bernard says it's his own fault that he's out there alone. Rose says that's not what she is apologizing for. "I lied to you, back in Australia. Isaac didn't heal me. He didn't do anything."
"Of course he did," Bernard says.
"Bernard, he didn't heal me. But that doesn't mean I'm not healed." She tells him that when you're sick and you've got something inside you that doesn't belong there you can feel it. After the crash she didn't feel it anymore. At first she thought it was just shock. But it wasn't. "It's this place."
Rose's Flashback - Airport
Bernard and Rose sit in the airport. Bernard gets up, and as he leaves, Rose looks sad that she had lied to him.Time Left
"But you said Isaac fixed you," Bernard says."I said that so that you wouldn't spend what time we had left trying to do something."
"Rose, you could just be in remission. How do you know Isaac didn't fix you?"
"I know," Rose says.
