Flashbacks in Italics
Hurley and Libby run along the beach. Hurley struggles and says that he needs to drop a few pounds. Libby tells him not to be so hard on himself and that it's not going to happen overnight.
Hurley says, "It's not my metabolism. I'm sick." He takes her to his food stash. He has shelves full of Dharma food.
He explains how being stranded on the island wasn't all bad. It was an all mango diet and he dropped a few belt sizes. Then they found the hatch and there was so much food in it. He tried to give it all away but, "I guess I kind of kept some of it for myself," he says. "I wish I could just get rid of it."
"Then get rid of it," Libby says. "You want to change, then change." She hands him a tub of ranch dressing.
He opens the dressing and dumps it out, then opens other containers and dumps out the contents. He and Libby laugh as he empties his stash.
When he's done she asks how he feels. "I feel free," he says, and they hug. They stare into each other's eyes and look like they will kiss.
They are interrupted by Jin yelling something and running past. Sun runs after him and tells Hurley and Libby, "They found something, come on." More people run by and Hurley and Libby follow.
They come up on the food drop. Hurley says, "No."
Libby asked where it came from. Charlie explains that there was a lockdown in the hatch and that maybe it was because of the food drop.
Hurley stares at the food in shocked disbelief. He keeps muttering, "No."
Hurley watches the other survivors swarm over the food and argue over it. Sawyer says, "You guys are like locusts. How about a little order here?"
"So shouldn't we let someone a little more trustworthy take care of this?" Charlie asks.
"Oh, like you, babynapper?" Sawyer says.
"No," Charlie says, "like Hurley. He's done it before, he can do it again."
"No!" Hurley says. "No way! Not me, not again, no!"
Libby steps in and says that no one should be in charge.
Hurley catches a glimpse of a man standing on the other side of the pallet. This bald man is smiling at him. He's wearing a plaid bathrobe over pajamas and slippers.
Hurley stares, looking distressed. Bathrobe man disappears and Hurley sees him further in the jungle. He turns and walks into the jungle and Hurley follows.
Hurley runs and falls. He finds a slipper and slowly reaches for it, looking scared to touch it.
Hurley grabs the slipper and says, "Uh oh."Later, Hurley sits on the beach, looking at the slipper. Libby comes over and asks who he was looking for. He says no one and she says that when he ran off, it looked like he was looking for someone. He says he doesn't want to talk about it as he hides the slipper.
"Pretty weird, huh?" Libby says. "It's like the island won't let you lose weight. You destroy your stash and bang, more food falls from the sky."
"How 'bout that," Hurley says.
"I'm proud of you," Libby says. He wants to know for what, and she says, "Not freaking out."
Hurley's Flashback - Dr. Brooks
"How's the diet coming, Hugo?"Hurley is staring off to the side. He looks forward and says, "It's okay. I had a salad and some chicken breast for lunch."
"That's great," the doctor says. "It gets easier, I promise. So, I heard you had a visit with your mom. How'd that go?"
Hurley shrugs. "It was good."
"You're not still mad at her, then?"
"Nah," Hurley says. "I know she put me in here for a reason."
"What reason was that?" the doctor asks.
"The accident."
"Do you want to talk about that today?" the doctor asks.
"Do we have to?"
"Hugo, you've been in here almost two months, now. Don't you think it's about time to start getting our hands dirty?"
Hurley doesn't answer and the doctor leans forward and says that they should talk about the homework assignment.
"I was never really good at homework."
Hurley was supposed to make a list of things that he likes about himself. He says that nobody else did it, and the doctor asks who. Hurley says, "Well Dave didn't do it. He said it was a stupid idea."
"Well, I'm not Dave's doctor, but we have talked about how he could be a very negative influence."
"Dave's the most normal person in this place, man," Hurley says.
"But he doesn't want you to change, does he?"
Hurley leaves the doctor and goes to the gym where some of the other patients are playing basketball. Bathrobe guy is there, wearing the same plaid bathrobe and pajamas. He asks if Hurley wants in the game.
Hurley says no and he asks what's wrong. Hurley doesn't answer so bathrobe guy, Dave, says, "It's taco night, let's blow this popsicle stand."
Hurley says, "Brooks says you're, like, negative."
"Well duh," Dave says. "So you don't want to hang out with me anymore?"
"Nah, I don't know, it's just-"
"Is that quack getting in your head, man? Don't let him. You've got much more important things to worry about."
"Like what?"
"Like hard or soft shell. Chicken or shrimp. Sour cream or hot sauce."
"Yeah, I guess I could eat," Hurley says.
