The Speaker

Henry is in the armory alone, laying on his cot reading a book. Locke is in the other room listening to music and riding furiously on the exercise bike.

A woman's voice is heard and Locke stops pedaling. He goes into the other room and hears static. He takes the needle off the record and goes to look at the computer. The usual curser is there. He looks up at the timer, 47 minutes to go.

He follows the static to a hallway and sees that it's coming from a speaker. He grabs a screwdriver and a chair and starts messing with the speaker. He gets feedback and Henry sits up in the armory and yells, "What was that?"

No answer. Henry goes to the door. "John?"

Locke looks at the speaker.

Locke's Flashback - The Funeral

Locke and Helen pull up to a cemetery. "You sure you want to do this?" Helen asks. Locke thinks a moment, then nods. "We can still go on that picnic, you know."

"Soon, I promise," Locke says.

"Hey," Helen says, "maybe he left you his kidney."
They both laugh.

Locke and Helen are the only two at the funeral while the Father reads from the bible. Locke notices two guys standing across the cemetery. One is watching him.

He also notices a silver car sitting in the driveway. The Father asks Locke if he'd like to say anything.

Locke stands up and says, "I forgive you," to the coffin. He watches the silver car drive off.

Please Proceed

The woman on the loud speaker says through static, "Please proceed. Protocol. Please proceed.

Henry yells through the door, "John? Hey, you out there? What's that noise? John? What's going on? Talk to me."

"Will you be quiet!"

"Tell me what's happening," Henry says, "What the hell is-"

"Will you shut up!"

The loud speaker voice starts counting down from 10. Henry says, "Maybe you should get Jack."

Locke jumps off the chair, "I said shut up!" He goes towards the armory door, but as the countdown gets to 0, blast doors come down confining Locke to the room that leads to the armory. As the last one descends, he grabs a crow bar and throws himself toward the door, managing to wedge it between the door and the floor.

Inside the armory Henry looks scared and says, "What happened?"

The Poker Game

Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley play poker. Hurley looks at his cards and then says he'll bet four papayas.

"You can't bet, I just bet," Sawyer says. "You can either call or raise or lay 'em down, Muttonchops.

Hurley looks at Kate, but she's not helping.

Jack walks up and says that Sawyer has Hurley beat. Hurley says he has a killer hand and without looking Jack tells Hurley, "You've got a baby straight, he's got the flush."

Kate looks impressed and says, "What about me? What do I got?"

Jack says, "Hard to say. You're just playing for the fun of it."

"Well, fun's not bad," she says with a smile. "You should try it sometime."

"Hey, Amarillo Slim," Sawyer says, "you think because you watch poker on TV you can tussle with the big boys?"

Jack starts to head back to the hatch.

"Hatch ain't going nowhere, doc," Sawyer says. "How about you put your mangoes where your mouth is?"

Lockdown

Locke bangs on the blast door and looks around. Suddenly the lights start flickering and Henry yells, "What's going on?"

Locke tries to lift the door with the crow bar, he's not strong enough. Henry keeps yelling, wondering what is wrong. Locke says that nothing is wrong.
