Claire's Mind is Made Up
Claire asks Sun to watch the baby. Sun says, "I don't think this is a good idea. Maybe you should listen to Jack."Claire says, "What if Jack's wrong, okay? Jack said the fever would break and it hasn't. He's getting worse."
Sun says that a mother shouldn't leave her child and Claire snaps, "I'm sorry, are you a mother?"
Sun says no with a look of anguish. "Claire," she says, "are you sure you want to do this?"
Claire has another series of memory flashes: a strange log, Ethan saying, "You need to be sure," the plane mobile, the young woman saying, "You need to get out of here," an operating room, Claire with someone holding something over her mouth, being injected with a syringe, a canteen, Ethan opening the cold case with the vials and filling a syringe.
Claire is very out of it and says, "Do you have to put that in my tummy? It really, really hurts."
Ethan says, "I know. I wish there was another way, but the baby needs it." He injects the baby through Claire's stomach. "There, all done. And now, because you've been such a good girl, I think it's time for a surprise."
Claire and Ethan walk down a corridor. Claire sees what looks like an exit, some stairs and a ramp, but Ethan steers her another way. He takes her to a room that is made up like a nursery and tells her it's for her baby.
"It's amazing," she says. "What happened to Charlie?"
"Charlie?" Ethan says. "Oh, he's fine. When we got far enough away from camp, I let him go back."
"Oh," she says. She looks around the nursery. "So where did it all come from?"
Ethan says, "I'd love to explain everything to you, Claire, but I'm afraid it would be a little overwhelming right now."
Claire goes over to the crib, which has the plane mobile hanging over it. "Go ahead, turn it on," Ethan says.
Claire turns on the mobile and it plays, "Catch a Falling Star". Claire seems confused about this and can't take her eyes off the mobile. Someone calls Ethan and he says he'll be right back.
Just outside the door, a man's voice whispers to Ethan, "What the hell happened? You were supposed to make the list and then bring her in. Was I unclear?"
"It's not my fault," Ethan says, "they knew I wasn't on the plane. They had a manifest."
Claire drags her eyes away from the plane mobile to glance at the two men. The man Ethan is talking to is Mr. Friendly, only he doesn't have a beard and he is well dressed and well groomed. He notices Claire watching and shuts the door.
Claire sees the same quick flashes again and then she is back with Sun on the beach.
Sun asks if she's alright, but before Claire can answer, Kate is there, asking if she's ready to go. Claire says goodbye to Aaron and leaves with Kate.
Teenaged Girl
Kate and Claire follow Rousseau's trail, starting from where they ran her off the beach. Claire asks what Kate knows about Rousseau from when she went with her to the Black Rock. Kate tells her about Rousseau's team getting shipwrecked on the island. Claire asks what happened to the rest of Rousseau's team and Kate tells her they died. Claire asks how and Kate changes the subject by saying that the trail ends.Claire presses, wanting to know how Rousseau's team died.
Kate finally says, "She killed them."
Claire wants to know why and Rousseau steps out and says, "Because they were infected. You believe me now, don't you?"
"I want you to take me back there," Claire says. "Take me back to where I scratched you."
"Claire," Kate says.
"No, okay, she knows I remember," Claire says. "I remember a lot of it now. I remember the room, the medicine, a teenage girl."
Rousseau is more interested once Claire mentions the teenage girl and she says it's not far from here.
Secrets
Jack is on the beach getting water and Eko comes over and asks who the man is that they are keeping in the hatch. "Did Locke tell you?" Jack asks."Locke didn't tell me anything," Eko says. "Who is he? I wish to speak to him."
Jack wants to know about what and Eko says, "I wish to speak to him alone. Can you arrange this?"
Jack wonders why he should and Eko says, "Because you wish to keep this a secret."
