Sayid's Flashback - New Skills
An Army convoy drives down a deserted dusty road in Iraq. Sayid's hands are tied behind his back and he sits across from Sergeant Austen, who is looking at a photograph. The Sergeant asks if Sayid has a wife and kids and Sayid says no. Austen looks back down at the picture of young Kate.The truck comes to a stop and they let Sayid out. Inman pulls out a knife and cuts the ropes from Sayid's hands. He says that one of these days Sayid will need to know something and now he has the skills to know how to get it.
"I will never do that again," Sayid says.
Inman doesn't seem to believe him. He gives Sayid some money, and they leave him there.
Forgotten
Sayid sits with Charlie on the beach and tells him about Henry and how he beat him.Charlie wants to know why Sayid is telling him and Sayid says, "Jack asked me how I knew for sure that this man was lying. I know because I feel no guilt for what I did to him. But there is no way I can ever explain that to Jack, or even Locke, because both of them have forgotten."
"Forgotten what?" Charlie asks.
"That you were strung up by your neck and left for dead. That Claire was taken and kept for days, during which, God only knows what happened to her. These people, these Others, are merciless, and can take any one of us whenever they choose. So tell me, Charlie, have you forgotten?"
