"The Long Con" Recap

Part 4

By Bonnie Covel, About.com

Move the Guns

Locke rifles through a book called Owl Creek Bridge and Sawyer comes into the hatch and asks what he's doing. "Alphabetizing," Locke says. "How can I help you, James?"
"Well, actually, John, I'm here to help you, give you the heads-up," Sawyer says. "Seems Jack's on his way over here to open your little gun closet and take whatever he needs. You should know he's not alone. The whole camp's pretty shook up about what happened to Tokyo Rose. I'm guessing everybody's going to want to play cowboys and Indians. And once those guns are out and about, something tells me they ain't never going back in."
"Why are you telling me this?" Locke asks.

Sawyer says, "Because it'll piss off Jack. If I were you, I'd change that combination, pronto."

"But that won't work. The door will just slow him down. If Jack wants to get in, he'll get in. Will you help me?"

Locke wants Sawyer to help move the guns, but doesn't want to tell Sawyer where. Instead he asks Sawyer to stay and man the button.

Sawyer's Flashback - 600 Grand

Sawyer sits at a diner table alone and the waitress, Diane, takes his order. A man, Gordy, comes and sits across from Sawyer. "Tell me you got her," Gordy says.

"Yeah, I got her," Sawyer says.

"All 600 grand?"

"All 6," Sawyer says and looks uncomfortable.

"You fell for her. Oh, come on, you've go to be kidding me," Gordy says.

Sawyer says he's not going through with the con and Gordy is mad because he'd found her. Gordy says, "You're going to do it, because she doesn't know you one bit. You owe me. You don't want to pay me? I'll put one in your ear, James. You and your little friend, Cassidy."

Call the Cops

The timer goes off and Sawyer inputs the numbers as Jack and Jin walk in. "What are you doing here?" Jack asks.

"Hold on," Sawyer says, "I'm like this close to the high score on Donkey Kong."

Jin says something in Korean and Sawyer finishes inputting the numbers and the timer resets. "Now, what can I do you for?"

Jack asks where Locke is and Sawyer says he went to the store for a pack of smokes. Jack opens the gun vault and sees that it's empty. "Uh-oh," Sawyer says, "it looks like we've got ourselves a theft. Who's going to call the cops?"

"Where are they?" Jack asks.

"Don't look at me," Sawyer says, "I was just pushing the button." He throws a prescription bottle to Jack and says, "Oh yeah, I believe these are yours."

Jack goes for Sawyer, but Jin stops him.

The New Sheriff

It's nighttime and Locke sits near a fire. Jack comes over and says, "John, where are they? You moved the guns. Where are they? We had an agreement."

"An agreement that you were about to violate, Jack. Yes, I moved the guns."

Locke says that Jack was going to hand them out and then it wouldn't be long before there was another accident. Locke says he is taking responsibility for the guns.

Jack wants two guns, but Locke says no.

Three gun shots are heard in the jungle. Sawyer walks out onto the beach. "You gave him the guns?" Jack asks Locke.

"No," Locke says. "I hid them."

Sawyer says, "That's right, Jack. He's as stupid as you are. You were so busy worrying about each other you never even saw me coming, did you? How about you listen up because I'm only going to say this once."

Sawyer tells everyone on the beach, "You took my stuff. While I was off trying to get us help, get us rescued, you found my stash and you took it, divvied it up, my shaving cream, my batteries, even my beer. And then something else happened, you decided these two boys, here, were going to tell you what to do and when to do it. Well, I'm done taking orders. And I don't want my stuff back. Shaving cream don't matter, batteries don't matter. The only thing that matters now are guns. And if you want one you're going to have to come to me to get it."

Sawyer looks at Sayid, "Oh, you want to torture me, don't you? Show everybody how civilized you are. Go ahead, but I'll die before I give them back. And then you'll really be screwed, won't you?"

Sawyer slings a rifle over his shoulder and says, "New sheriff in town, boys! You all best get used to it."
