Charlie goes to his stash of Virgin Mary statues and breaks one open.Charlie's Flashback - New Song
Charlie sits at the piano with a pencil between his teeth. Liam comes in and says that Karen threw him out because he dropped Megan. Liam begins to cry. He says they don't have any money and Charlie says that he's writing again and they'll get through this.Charlie says his new song is about two brothers. "Two brothers who should be butchers," Liam says.
"Don't say that," Charlie says. "It's a good one. I feel like it might be the one." Charlie begins to sing and Liam likes the song and says they should write all night like the old days." Charlie agrees and Liam says, "So, baby brother, have you got any?"
Charlie - Caught
Charlie holds a couple of baggies of heroin. Locke steps out of cover and says, "I'm disappointed in you, Charlie."Charlie asks if Locke is following him but Locke just asks how long Charlie has been coming out there. "John, you've got the wrong idea, man," Charlie says.
Locke says, "You said you destroyed them all, and yet here they are. How is that the wrong idea?"
"I came out here to finish the job. I'm going to get rid of these right now."
Locke says that's very convenient now that he found him. Locke puts the statues in his pack and Charlie asks what he's doing. "There was a time when I let you choose whether or not you were going to do this yourself. Now I'm making that choice for you."
Charlie reminds Locke of all the talk of the island testing them and this is Charlie's test. That's why the statues are there. Locke says the statues are there because Charlie put them there.
Charlie begs Locke not to tell Claire. "She'll never trust me again, and she has to, John. It's about the baby, alright? Aaron's in danger. You have to believe me."
Locke says, "You've given up the right to be believed, Charlie."
Locke's Protection
Locke sees Claire and asks how "our boy" is doing. She says he's good and asks if she and Aaron can sleep in the hatch bedroom for a while. Locke doesn't think it's a good idea because the alarm goes off every hour and a half, and the baby probably wouldn't sleep through it. He offers instead to move his stuff down by her tent and stay there for a few nights.Claire is relieved to hear that and asks if Locke knows anything about baptism because Charlie says the baby should be baptized and he's in danger.
Locke says, "My understanding is that baptism is about making sure that children get into heaven should anything happen. Call it a spiritual insurance. There isn't any danger, Claire. Charlie just feels like he has to save the baby because he can't save himself."
Fire + Water
That night, Charlie walks through the jungle with some wood. He has his hood up as if he is hiding. He walks by Sayid and Sayid asks for a hand, but Charlie says it's not a good time and continues walking. Sayid sees the fire in the direction Charlie just came from and yells for help. People come running.Locke gives instructions for a bucket line. Claire walks away from Aaron to watch the bucket line and Charlie goes up to Aaron and stares at him.
Charlie's Flashback - Liam Sells the Piano
Charlie returns home to find that his piano is gone. He yells for Liam and Liam says he sold it. He needed the money. Charlie asks if it went up his arm and Liam says that he's been clean for two days. Karen was going to leave him, so he sold the piano to get money to take Karen and Megan to Australia where Karen's uncle has a job for Liam, and there is a rehab clinic in Sydney."I just needed the money to get us there," Liam says. "I have to do this. I have to take care of myself for them. For my family."
"I'm your family!" Charlie says.
Liam leaves and Charlie follows, asking about the band and the song. Liam says that he has to do this and for Charlie to try to understand.
