Eko's Flashback - Thugs

A group of children play soccer in a Nigerian village. A truck full of thugs drives into the village as Young Eko looks on. The thugs get out of the truck and go for the children. A priest comes out of the church and says, "Don't take anymore of the children!" One of the thugs knocks the priest to the ground with the butt of his rifle.

One of the thugs gets an old man and forces him to his knees. The leader takes a gun from his holster and gives it to Eko's younger brother, Yemi. He puts Yemi in front of the old man and says, "Shoot him. Now!"

Yemi can't shoot and Eko runs over and takes the gun from Yemi and shoots the old man.

The thugs seem happy by this and ask his name. "Eko," he says.

"Look at Mr. Eko," one of the thugs says. "No hesitation. A born killer."
He puts his arm around Eko and leads him to the truck. He rips the cross from Eko's neck. "You won't need that anymore."

Yemi picks up the cross.

Virgin Mary Statues

Eko carves the names of the books of the bible into his stick. Claire comes over and asks what he's writing. He says he's writing things he needs to remember. She introduces herself and Aaron and they have a conversation about Aaron and Moses.

"So, you're religious, huh?" she says. "You should speak to Charlie. He doesn't want to admit he's religious, but he carries around a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Eko is very interested in the statue and asks Claire if she will show it to him.

Eko looks at the statue and asks Claire where Charlie found it. All she knows is that he found it in the jungle. Eko gets agitated and Claire says, "It's just a statue."

Eko puts the statue on the a table and breaks it with his stick to reveal the heroin. "Where is Charlie?" he asks.

The Guns

Locke opens the vault door and uses a screwdriver on the other side. "You breaking in or breaking out?" Michael asks.

Locke says, "With the new folks joining us I figure we better limit peoples' access to the guns. Can't have just anyone who wants one walk in and help themselves, which I'm guessing is why you're here, Michael."

Eko Finds Charlie

Eko finds Charlie and tells him to take him to where Charlie found the Virgin Mary. Charlie tries to get out of it, but Eko insists that they go right now.

Eko's Flashback - Heroin

A car pulls up to a village and two thugs get out, as well as an adult Eko. Inside the building Eko sits across from two Moroccans.

Eko opens a bag and tastes the heroin. He says he will give them 50 for the favor. One of the Moroccans says, "A favor?"

Eko says, "You have a large quantity of heroin in a country that has no poppies and no market for its sale. Your drugs are of no value here, so you must get them out. The borders are all guarded by the military, so you must fly. But as I'm sure you are aware, the only private planes currently allowed into the air are either U.N. aid or the Catholic missionaries. And so you have come to me for a favor. I will buy your heroin for 50.

The Moroccans stand and one says, "Is it true what they say about you, that you have no soul?"

With one swipe of his knife, Eko kills both men. A boy in the background drops something and Eko's men point a gun at him. Eko says no to his men and to the boy, "Tell your friends that Mr. Eko let you live."

Charlie Pretends

Claire cleans up the broken statue and Charlie and Eko appear. Charlie pretends like he didn't know the drugs were inside, but Claire doesn't believe him. He opens up the baggies and dumps the contents. He asks if she believes him now. All she says is, "Someone's waiting for you."
