'Dharma Wants You' Game Overview Part 2

'Lost's Third Alternate Reality Game

By Bonnie Covel, About.com

9/2/08 - Dharma Test 3 and a Video Announcement
Test number 3 is a Dexterity and Attentiveness Evaluation. According to the site, the objective of the test is: To assess adroitness within an increasingly unpredictable environment.

Basically, Dharma wants to know how skillfull you are under pressure. The pressure increases as the test gets harder and harder as time goes on.

You are meant to drag a Dharma logo around the screen without it touching the sides of the octagon or any of the four moving spheres witin the octagon.

I've only played a couple of times and so far my best score is 31 out of 100.

There is also a video announcement from Hans Van Eeghen. You can see it by clicking the video announcement link on the home page. Throughout the video are some disturbances. In these disturbances are clues on how to get further in test 3. See screen caps at LostARGS.com.

9/9/08 - Dharma Test 4 and Video Announcement Test four is a tangential judgment analysis. This evaluates the recruit's capacity for creative problem solving by asking 10 multiple choice questions.

There is also a video from Hans Van Eeghen in which he says that recruits can earn additional points by creating their own tests from their progress page.

9/18/08 - Dharma Test 5 and Video Announcement Yesterday, Dharma Wants You came out with test 5, along with a video from Hans Van Eeghen. Hans is upset with the cheats that have been coming through and urges us not to use them.

While Hans speaks, there is flashing square at the bottom right of the screen with Morse code, revealing yet another cheat. This one was really hard to figure out. Even with others finding the cheat it took me several tries to get it right and achieve a 100% on the test.

Today, an email came from Hans that stated that the recruitment program will end on October 7th. No worries, though, it just means that the game will move into the next phase.

Hidden in the source code of the email is a phone number. Call the number 1-(323)743-8573 to leave a message for Hans Van Eeghen himself. I did!

9/22/08 - Backward Voice
When you go to the Dharma site there is a voice every few seconds. When played backwards, the voice says: cheat, resembles, more, a, right, man, nothing, click, honest, C. You can hear the voices both backwards and forwards on the Dark UFO site. It's kind of spooky.

9/23/08 - Dharma Test 6
Test 6 is yet another mulitple choice. I hardly read the questions, though, just went ahead with the cheat, which worked on every question.

The test is called Specialized Department Evaluation and is meant to asses our expertise in a specific departmental skill set based on the results of preceding evaluations (so you must be logged in to take the test).

I'm getting tired of the multiple choice. I like the puzzles.

10/1/08 - Dharma Test 7
When you click on the link for test 7, Hans Van Eeghen comes on to say that you've already completed test 7. Test 7 is the Honesty and Integrity test.

Hans revealed that the cheats on the other tests were placed there by him to test our honesty and integrity and we pass or fail based on whether or not we cheated on the tests.

10/7/08 - Recruitment Update
A recruitment update is posted to let us know that our test results are being analyzed and after December 15, 2008, volunteers will be able to download a personalized volunteer assessment dossier.

11/18/08 - Hans Steps Down
Hans Van Eeghen sends an email out to recruits to announce that registered recruits can now log in and download their personalized Volunteer Assessment Dossier, which outlines full test results and positions within the Dharma Initiative.

The email goes on to say that there have been problems due to the financial crisis and the Dharma Initiative has been sold to television show Lost.

Hans has stepped down and management has been moved to Lost showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.

11/18/08 - Email Questions to Damon and Carlton
In the email Hans Van Eeghen sent (see above), there is a comment line that says "DSAqandaatgmaildotcom". If you email DSAqanda@gmail.com with any subject, you get this response, "Got a question for the creators of LOST? Submit your question along with your name and hometown, and if selected, Damon and Carlton will answer it in a DSA announcement...that is, if you haven't been a bad Black Swan."

11/25/08 - Dharma Special Access
The game has now moved into phase two, Dharma Special Access and can be followed at the Dharma Special Access overview.
