Complete Episode Guide: Not in Portland Guide

Not in Portland Clues

  • On Juliet's sister's nightstand if a fung shui (Dharma symbol) map. Not in Portland Easter Eggs

  • Dr. Alpert wants Juliet to work for Mittelos BioScience. Mittelos is an anagram for Lost Time. Another reference to time was when Aldo was reading the book "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking.

  • Dr. Alpert wants Juliet to research what happened to a woman's badly damaged womb. It's possible that the people on the island kidnapped the children because they can't have children of their own.

  • The sky turning purple when Desmond turned the key in the security system (Ep: 2x23, Live Together, Die Alone), changed things for the Others.

  • J. Wood points out in his blog, that Juliet has been on the island since four days before the 9/11 attacks, based on how long she told Jack she'd been on the island and the fact that in episode 3x2, (The Glass Ballerina), Ben gave Jack that day's date, November 29, 2004.

  • J. Wood also points out that Juliet's husband, Edmund Burke, shares a name with the 18th C. Anglo-Irish philosopher and conservative politician. See J. Wood's blog for more information.

Questions Raised by Not in Portland

  • While Jack works on Ben, he asks Tom why they didn't take Ben to a facility off the island. Tom starts to tell him why, "Ever since the sky turned purple--" then Ben starts bleeding out and the conversation ends. What was he going to say? How did Desmond turning the key in the security system change things for the Others?
