Chapter 29:
Paul falls into a deep sleep and wakes in the middle of the night, starving. He finds a 24 hour restaurant and eats a big meal. He walks around outside, until a van almost hits him. He goes back to his hotel and calls Pru. He's relieved that she wasn't the one driving the van, but wonders if she put someone up to it. She says she would never hurt him. "Then help me," he says.
She explains that she can drop Cliff's case by making some excuse, but switching sides was something else. Paul asks again and she says she'll meet him in an hour.
Chapter 30:
Paul and Pru sit and talk about Zander. Paul tells her all about Moth being killed, and also the boat captain being killed. She suggests that perhaps Zander and not Cliff is responsible. Paul doesn't even want to think about that idea.
They know Zander has something to do with black pearls, so they go to a jewelry store and ask about black pearls. The salesman shows them a string and tells them that they are very expensive because they are farmed and hard to get, and also pirates steal them. He said there was a rumor that an American was trying to buy an island to farm black pearls.
Chapter 31:
Pru and Paul go to Pru's sister's house, where she packs a bag and another gun. They fly out to the island and check into a small hotel there. Pru asks if they can see the other, uninhabited islands in the area and the concierge says that they do have a boat that does that, but someone else has already booked it all week. He suggests that they ask the gentleman if they can share the boat with him. His name is Cameron Purdue.
Chapter 32:
They find a man sitting by himself at the bar and as they approach Pru says, "Mr. Purdue?"
The man turns around and he has the same face as Cliff Widmore. Paul is happy that Pru is able to keep her composure so well and she asks if he will share the boat. She says that she and Paul are on their honeymoon. Later, at dinner, champagne comes from the man pretending to be Cameron Purdue.
The next morning they set out with Zander and Brian, who drives the boat. While they are out, another boat comes towards them, and Pru and Paul are ready with their guns. As guns are raised on the other boat, Paul yells, "Zander, get down!"
Paul gets a lucky shot and the other boat blows up. Paul tells Brian and Zander to act as if nothing out of the ordinary happened here today.
"Who the hell are you people?" Zander asks.
Chapter 33:
The group leaves the island and is finally able to talk at the airport. Zander wants to know what is going on and Paul tells him everything. He asks if Zander is older than Cliff and points out that he might be the sole air. Zander obviously does not like Cliff, but he's sure Cliff's not a murderer.
Paul mentions that Zander's father wants him to come home because of the fight they'd had and that his father thought about it and thinks that Zander was right. Pru asks if Zander will return to the states with her and Paul.
Chapter 34:
On the flight, Zander seems happy to be returning home to reconcile with his father, but at their layover, Paul checks his email and has to tell Zander that there has been a death. Zander believes it's his father, but Paul says it's Cliff. It was a bungled robbery.
Chapter 35:
The email had come from Paul's friend, Manny Weisman. He'd heard it on the radio. When they landed in New York, Paul bought a couple of newspapers. He and Pru agree that Cliff had been murdered. Zander is shocked at the idea, but glad that they no longer think his twin had been trying to kill him. Someone is trying to kill both twins. Pru asks Zander, "Your father's money - where would it go next?"
[brChapter 36:
Pru, Paul, and Zander go to the home of Arthur Widmore. Zander instructs the cabbie to put the code in the gate, which is 8-1-5-1-617, Zander's and Cliff's birthdays. They find the maid very upset over Cliff's death, but Vivian not so much. Arthur is all broken up, but so happy to see Zander and tell him he was right.
Chapter 37:
Zander and Arthur leave to have a father and son talk. Paul and Pru know that Vivian would like them to leave, but instead they bring up the fact that someone is trying to kill both heirs. She doesn't even flinch. In the taxi, Pru tells Paul that she doesn't think Vivian Widmore has anything to do with the murder and attempted murders because she's not desperate enough.
Paul asks if they will stay at his house tonight or hers. She says they will each stay at their separate houses and do laundry and sleep. He says he'll pick her up at 8:30 in the morning and she says, "8:1518, it's bad luck to be late for a funeral."
