Guide Review - Finding 'Lost': the Unofficial Guide by Nikki Stafford
I believe that symbolism in entertainment is very important and that different viewers will see and understand different levels of symbolism. With Lost's mythology and symbolism, many fans spend hours and hours discussing with other fans what it all means. Then there is the casual Lost viewer, who is watching purely for one hour a week of entertainment and does not delve deep into the show. My belief is that even the casual viewer picks up on the symbolism in some way, even if they are not conscience of it.
The best part about Find Lost: the Unofficial Guide is that Nikki Stafford brings the symbolism, themes, and mythology to the forefront, so that casual viewers and devoted fans have a better understanding of what is happening in each episode. When reading many of her points, I would think, "Yes, of course, I knew that somewhere in my brain, but now Nikki has pointed it out so that I can think about it and come to my own conclusions."
While some of the sidebars feel like homework, it was all information that I wanted to know and am glad that I have read.
