The Marshal
Episode 1x3, Tabula Rasa - Flashback Scene 2When Kate decides it's time to leave the farm, the farmer offers to give her a ride to the train station. On the way he acts nervous and keeps checking the rear view mirror. Kate picks up on his nervousness and begins to understand what is going on. She looks in the mirror to see the Marshal following behind. The farmer explains that he saw her picture and he really needs the reward money. He is apologetic. Kate is desperate and grabs the steering wheel, forcing the farmer's pick-up truck to crash. She jumps out, intending to run away, but can't leave the farmer and stops to help him. This allows the Marshal to capture her.
The Airport
Episode 1x23, Exodus Part 1 - Flashback Scene 1Kate and the Marshal are in the Australian airport in an office. An airport cop asks if the Marshal will be armed. "Yes," he says, "with an ankle holster."
The cop says he has to stow his case in the luggage compartment in the front. The Marshal agrees and the cop asks why he needs five guns. He asks if Kate wants to tell him, but she says nothing. She sits next to him, handcuffed to a chair.
The cop asks about the toy plane that is also in the case, next to the guns. The Marshal explains how the plane belonged to her childhood sweetheart who she got killed a couple of years ago when she was on the run. She began calling him, taunting him, and he tells her he has the toy plane in a safe deposit box. Somehow she figures out the bank and the deposit number.
The Marshal taunts her about the name of her friend and Kate jumps up and pins the Marshal against the wall. The Marshal elbows her in the face and she falls to the ground. He turns to the cop, "That is why I need five guns."
The Plane
Episode 1x2, Pilot Part 2 - Flashback Scene 1Kate is on the plane next to a man who asks her if she wants more juice. She pulls her hands from the under a jacket. She is wearing handcuffs and struggles to drink some juice. There is turbulence and the man laughs. He is struck in the head by luggage and is knocked out. As the plane goes down, Kate struggles to get the key off the man and unlocks one side of the handcuffs. As the oxygen masks come down, she puts one on herself and one on the man.
Cassidy
Episode 5x11, Whatever Happened, Happened - Flashback 1Kate drives through a neighborhood with baby Aaron in a car seat in the back. She's listening to Patsy Cline.
She finds the house she's looking for and pulls into the driveway. She takes Aaron out of his car seat and sings Catch a Falling Star to him as she walks to the house and rings the doorbell.
Cassidy answers the door and at first doesn't recognize Kate, but then says, "Oh my God," and hugs her. "I saw you on the news. I told all my friends, 'I know that woman.'"
Cassidy says hi to the baby and Kate says, "This is Aaron."
"You survived the plane crash."
Kate nods.
"That's amazing. I never thought I'd see you again. What are you doing here?"
"Sawyer sent me."
Later, inside, Cassidy thumbs through an envelope full of money and says, "Sawyer. So that son-of-a-bitch is still alive?"
"He was when I left," Kate says.
"And he asked you to come here and give me an envelope full of money?"
"Well, he told me where to find you, and said to take care of Clementine? His daughter?"
"Well she's asleep in her crib right now. You want me to wake her up?"
"I, uh, shouldn't have bothered." Kate gets up. "I could have sent it."
"Why did you tell me all this? Why'd you trust me?"
"Because I thought your daughter had a right to know that her father cared."
"Why didn't he come back with the rest of you?"
"The helicopter that we were on was running out of gas, so he jumped so that we could make it to the boat."
Cassidy sighs. "What a coward."
"He was trying to do the right thing."
"He was trying to get away from you. I told him he had a daughter, he never so much as lifted a finger to try to call her. So now I'm supposed to think he's a hero because he told you to come and try and help us? Hell, I bet this money isn't even his, is it?"
"They gave us a settlement after the crash and I didn't need it all--"
"You don't have to explain it, Kate, you've got the same look on your face as I did when he ditched me. All I have for you is sympathy. Is it his?"
"What?"
"Your son. Is it Sawyer's?"
Kate sits. "No. I was pregnant before I met him."
"That's not your baby, is it? Kate, you just told me that you and your friends cooked a story for the whole world about what happened on that island. So you tell me the truth about that, why are you lying to me about him?"
"Because I have to."
