So Jacob was obviously able to leave the island, even though Man in Black was not. How did he leave the island? Did he have a submarine or other type of boat? Did he poof off of the island and land wherever he wanted? Did he turn the donkey wheel?
What was the purpose behind Jacob's visits to the Losties? Did he actually have to touch them to make sure they came to the island, or did he just have to do something in order to get them on the right path? Did Jacob do this with others who maybe proved unworthy to go to the island and therefore we didn't see them?
Did Hurley ever leave the island when he was in charge?

This is also a very good question as we may never know. But the Donkey Wheel to me seems like the most sensible place because MIB showed him in “Across the Sea” when he threw his knife and the magnetic force pulled it to the well. When MIB told Mother how he built the wheel to harness the light and leave the island, Mother probably told Jacob at some point before she died.
I think Hurley sent Ben off the island to check on things. I can imagine Hurley would leave to go visit his mother and father before they died or after they died to see their graves. Or maybe they waited until everyone who knew them passed away so no one would recognize them.
I think the reason Jacob visited the Losties was cause he knew they were the final candidates and wanted to give them the touch so that they couldn’t kill themselves or kill each other. Just because we didn’t see him visit Sayid doesn’t mean he didn’t.
@ Dharma Dude – Jacob did visit Sayid; when Nadia was hit by a black SUV.
Oh yea duh, ha ha i can’t believe i don’t remember that part, ok so then that backs up my theory even more.
The donkey wheel seems an unlikely way for Jacob to travel off the island–remember both Ben and Locke ended up in a very different time when they used it to travel, and then you have to get from Tunisia to wherever you are going. I think he must have had another method–boat or astral projection. I can’t see him on a submarine and if he took the sub he would have to show himself to the Others, which he never seemed to do with anyone but Richard.
