Q&A with Darlton

Thursday November 20, 2008
Lost showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, a.k.a Darlton, spoke this past weekend at an expo where they answered some questions.

They talked about their history of working together on Nash Bridges. Damon also commented on how intimidated he was at first by the creative challenges that Lost presented. There weren't many people that believed a plot about people stranded on an island could sustain a series.

As they've stated before, Darlton and Cuse expressed their relief at knowing the show's end date so they know when to reveal certain aspects of the mythology.

They spoke about the flop of the Nikki and Paulo characters. Originally they were supposed to be Rose and Bernard type characters that popped out of the background now and then, but plans changed based on the negative fan reaction to the characters.

Plans changed with Mr. Eko as well, based on the fact that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, didn't like living and Hawaii and wanted off the series.

It was an interesting panel, recounted well. To read about the panel, check out: Lost's Past and Future.

(1) Patti Wigington says:

One of the things that amazes me about the LOST phenomenon is the fact that it’s so interactive, what with online stuff like the Oceanic website, and all the other little nuggest the creators put into it. They make it clear that they want viewers to be emotionally invested in the show. I think the Nikki and Paolo storyline resolution was a great example of this — at one point in that episode, Sawyer echoes exactly what the viewing public had been saying: “Who the hell are Nikki and Paolo?”
