What Happened to Danielle Rousseau in 16 Years?

What do we know about Rousseau in the 16 years between coming to the island and meeting the Oceanic people? It seems like a huge gap. The survivors accomplished so much in 44 days or so until the end of Season 1, and it seems Rousseau did almost nothing. When did she give up trying to get her daughter? And how come she didn't get sick like the rest of her crew?We don't have a whole lot of information on Rousseau during these 16 years, but we have been promised a Rousseau flashback where a lot of this will be filled in. in ENTER 77 when sayid and kate were approaching mikhails house,danielle said something about waiting for them at the stream because she had no desire to go into the house, she said she had stayed alive this long by avoiding these people. this means that she knew they were there and had seen them. not just heard the whispers but had seen the others.
Yes, I remember that as well. Good point. But, in the first Sayid flashback of season 1, she told him that she had not seen anyone only heard them. This seems to be a contradiction.
