Negotiations to Resume!

Wednesday November 21, 2007
This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for television. I just want everyone to be happy, but more importantly I want my TV shows, especially Lost!

Thankfully, negotiations are set to resume on Monday between the Writers Guild and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers. The first formal meeting is scheduled for November 26th, and hopefully, as we are in the season of giving, both sides can compromise.

In fact, Lost may actually be helping a compromise through the short weekly Missing Pieces episodes ABC is running on ABC.com. The Missing Pieces episodes were created under an agreement where the writers, actors, and crew are paid specifically for their work on the internet episodes and even includes residual income.

The New York Times quotes executive producer Carlton Cuse, "I think it is a pretty good model. What is shows is that there is basically room for a partnership between writers and the studios in a new medium. It's where I wish we were headed instead of being stuck in this standoff."
