Par Avion - First Impressions

Wednesday March 14, 2007
Act 1 - I love Claire's bird idea! I'm happy to get to know more about her family.

Act 2 - Aunt Lindsey! Locke sure seems to be apologizing a lot lately.

Act 3 - Dang! Are we supposed to be surprised? I was hoping Christian wasn't Claire's father. It was way too obvious.

Act 4 - Seems a little convenient that Claire didn't want to know her father's name, but whatever.

Act 5 - Well, at least the ending was a surprise! I love the way Jack was running towards them and then turned and caught the football. This episode redeemed itself, pretty much. What did you think?

(1) John Fischer says:

I guess I’ll be the first.

I really enjoyed this episode primarily because we haven’t seen much of Claire this season and Emilie de Ravin is just so cute.

Speaking of characters we haven’t seen, where did Rose and Bernard go? They must have moved to the other side of the island!

As for Locke, last week I thought he just made one bad decision after another. I’m no longer sure. Could he be doing all of this intentionally? No one is really that stupid. I’m pretty sure he knew that he would kill Mikhail Bakunin when he pushed him, but why? What does he know that we don’t? Whose side is he really on?

My teachers way back long ago in school would say that all of the losties lack any degree of intellectual curiosity. Every time they get a chance to get some answers they ask one or two questions and stop. When Locke and Kate were asking Mikhail questions, Sayid interrupted them and like good little soldiers they dropped the conversation and followed. I would have looked at Sayid and said “shut up” I want to hear the answers to these questions!

I can’t imagine that the rescue squad thinks that they’ll be able to take on a whole armed camp of Others/Hostiles. Guess what, I bet they can. The Others will be like the indians in the old cowboy movies. They probably can’t shoot straight.

Now for something interesting. I read this theory on EW.com:

“You guys should really check out Farmer’s Riverworld series, because it’s loaded with Lost resonances. Does reincarnation explain it all? Do ”the Others” = ”The Ethicals”? Does ”The Mysterious Stranger” = ”Ben”? Is it just coincidence that Mikhail Bakunin is a character in the third season of Lost AND the third Riverworld book The Dark Design? And how WEIRDLY COINCIDENTAL is it that the recent Jack episode ”Stranger in a Strange Land” is also the name of a sci-fi book by Robert Heinlein, which was dedicated to… Philip Jose Farmer! C’MON, PEOPLE! There MUST be a CONNECTION!” – Interesting eh? I’m a fan of the Riverworld books and I should have picked up all the similarities.

Iwas hoping not to see the obvious about Claire, bow it seems the woman that Christian fights in front of a house whwn he is with Ana Lucía might be Aunt Lindsey. If anyone can check that in season’s 2 episode please let me know (see if there is a number on the house too). Eventhough I wasn’t surprise that Mikhail knew the scouts by name, Why is Locke so secret about his previous condition besides that being the motive for his “rescue mission”?
On the other hand, I,m tired of Claire’s complaining to Charlie, He is now clean and a good babysitter so just stop being anannoying#$!*(.
For now I hope that the next fence the others try to build isn’t copied for US national security cause breaching a tree over was too easy for tresspassers.

Long time watcher, first time poster…

OK, here goes my theory of how the castaways got on the island. THE PLANE DID NOT CRASH !!! You heard it, it did not crash….How is this possible? You will have to help me with names and episodes but here it goes….Remember how Alex boyfriend was being subject to some brain altering movie. Well, is it possible that once the plane took off from Australia, the passengers, those who weren’t the others were subject to some sleeping gas and hooked up either in the plane and forced to watch a movie of a plane crash ???? Or maybe the plane landed on the island because the others on the plane, once they had control took them to the island and they re-created the crash in a movie style and subliminally showed the passengers the crash scene and other events that have occurred on the island such as the nano bytes or what ever they are…perhaps they have been drugged and showed the movie so many time that there are triggers such as noise, food, time of day…that re-create these in their minds.

The plane could have been blown up parts taken parts of the island, maybe it’s still intake…these recent episode refers to flying birds…maybe the plane is what the show is referring too!!!!

What do you think ???

lost guy,

I think that theory loses water when you recall the first episode of this season when you saw that the Others/Hostiles saw the plane break apart when flying over the island.

(5) Lostaway Bonnie says:

John, I’ve been wondering about Locke too. He definitely seems to know something that we don’t, or at least he has a plan that we are not privy to. And cool article from EW!

Frances, yep Aunt Lindsey is who Christian argued with while Ana-Lucia watched. And no kidding about the fence. The way too easy!

Welcome to posting, lost guy, and your theory definitely has some substance, but I agree with John. Ben, Juliet, and the many of the Others saw the plane break apart in the sky.

(6) Rae says:

I enjoyed this episode very much. Claire’s letter at the end made me tear up a bit.

John – I agree about Locke and the part about the questions. Locke was definitely not this stupid in season one. Mikhail also made that comment about Locke before he was cut off – can’t remember exactly what he was saying, but it was one of those things where I thought, wait a minute….they (the Others) KNOW Locke! Yes, he was on the “List” but it’s more than that I think.

Loved the very last scene with Jack playing football – gave me chills!

(7) Wendy B says:

Another good episode. The character interactions were interesting and entertaining (except that Claire needs to get off of Charlie’s case.) Good writing.

Locke is up to something, or thinks he is up to something. At the least, he has different motivations from the Losties. I’m happy to know he wasn’t a complete idiot last week (just mostly). Obviously, he WANTED to blow up the communications station, probably because he doesn’t want to leave the island.

What consequences could there be of Jack and Claire being half-sibs? Hard to say, but it could come up.

I’m glad they gave Rousseau a little more face time. I love me some Mira Furlan (I’m a dedicated Babylon 5 fan, where she portrayed Ambassador De’Lenn). She has good motivation for not leaping at the chance to introduce herself to Alex.

Now we are inches closer to understanding that the Losties were somehow CHOSEN to be brought to the island. But our troop of Losties were the rejects! hehehehehee. Still, I wonder how that correlates with Desmond causing the EMP that brought down the plane. Was that part of the plan or were they supposed to actually land?

(8) John F says:

So all we found out last night was Claire is Jack’s half-sister, which we already knew anyways.

Not sure why people think this was “another good episode”…it kept you waiting for something to happen. Hate to see how many viewers we lost because of last night’s boredom. Lost delivered action in Season 1 and 2, it delivers boredom in Season 3 and hence why ratings have dropped a lot. I love the show, don’t get me wrong, but this season seems more like a chore to watch than enjoyment.

Loved it, as usual. One of the best, for sure.

(10) SMC2405 says:

My husband made a great observation last night. When they show Sawyer at the end he is reading an Ayn Rand book “The Fountainhead”. This reminded him of her book “Atlas Shrugged” which is very similiar to Lost. He says in theh book the “capable” people are tired of the “incapable” people using them to get ahead so they all move to a city in Colorado. I’m not sure what happens to the incapable (haven’t read the book). He also said there is a lady in the book who has two men she is interested in. Both men are good men but one is a little bit better than the other and is the one she should be with though she is with the other one. (kate, Sawyer, Jack triangle connection).
We both liked the show lastnight and look forward to next weeks show.

(11) bd says:

my guess is the fence was meant to keep animals out and not people, but i could be wrong.

Locke is definately up to something, and it looks like the previews of next week hint we will find out.

and its to early for jack to be victim of “stockholm’s syndrome”, im sure we will find out why he is able to roam free at the barracks. maybe he knows there is no way out, or maybe his new friendship with chick and the sea captain has changed things – but thats why we watch the show, right? we will find out.

(12) Laura says:

As usual, am one day behind, as we seem to be in a routine of watching on Thursday evenings for now anyway.

Observations:

How on earth is that note going to make it to land? It’s made of paper! Sea birds fish! It will get wet.

My daughter wondered why the Losties were shocked at “seeing Jack play football with some Senior Citizens”. That really made me laugh!

“Jacob’s List” again – we are VERY curious about that!

Could someone clue me into why so many people thought Jack and Claire are brother and sister (before last night)? Yet something else I missed.

I don’t know what to make of Locke at this point.

And John – “lack of intellectual curiosity” is an understatement! But of course, we really have only the script writers to blame. :-)

There was really some funny stuff last night – we enjoyed it.

i say Locke seen something on the video after the chess game other then what we saw on t.v. and i say the eyepatchman will get a back story just like Desmond.
