Lost in Australia

The big news in the Lost world today is that instead of Hawaii, Lost was almost shot in Australia and New Zealand. They were all set to send a crew to scout out filming locations down under, but at the last moment, decided on Hawaii. I wonder how different the show would have been had it been filmed somewhere else. Hawaii just seems like such a perfect location.
