Lost gets Snowed - 2006 Emmy Nominations
Thursday July 6, 2006
So the Emmy nominations are out, and hello?, does anyone from the TV Academy remember that little show called Lost that won six Emmys last year? This years nominations:
- Outstanding Drama Series - They forgot to add the best show EVER! I mean, come on, people, Lost won last year and this year not even a nomination?
- Outstanding Lead Actor In a Drama - They skipped right over the Lost actors
- Outstanding Lead Actress - Does anyone else hear the crickets?
- Supporting Actor/Actress - More crickets
- Guest Actress - Nothing
- Outstanding Guest Actor - All right, Brotha, now we're getting somewhere. Henry Ian Cusick was nominated for his role as Desmond
- Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series - They are darn lucky that they nominated Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof or they would have heard from me! The two were nominated for writing The 23rd Psalm.
- Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series - Jack Bender for Live Together, Die Alone
- Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series
- Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series
- Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series (2)
- Outstanding Single-Camera Sound Mixing For A Series
- Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series - Well I would hope so! Sheesh!
Are you kidding me? From its huge haul last year to a shutout this year. How can the TV Academy not nominate the show that won Best Drama last year? ABC really got screwed. Desperate Housewives was also ignored. The new voting system was supposed to help shows on the smaller networks, but still no Lauren Graham, no Battlestar Galactica... This is disgraceful.

The major award nominations were decided by a “blue-ribbon” panel who took the top 10 nominations made by the general membership and selected the 10 best. Clearly these folks were more into “traditional” shows than the general membership.
How can LOST be nominated for best directing, best writing and best casting but not best drama series?
I take some solace in the nomination for best cinematography. LOST is the only series filmed entirely on location, i.e. Hawaii.
I know, I don’t get it. I’m not very familiar with the process, but it doesn’t seem like a good process. It just doesn’t make sense.
I keep looking at the list in disbelief – almost hoping that maybe I read it wrong. Lost definitely got snowed, but so did Prison Break and The Shield.
I said a long time ago that the voters must be these old foogies who must be suffering from the loss of one or more of their senses.
However – I do agree with 4 of the 5 nominations. As the TV Dramas Guide, I really don’t want to say which one I don’t agree with, but that spot should have definitely gone to Lost, Prison Break or The Shield.
Here’s the thing, West Wing had it’s last season, and I feel like a lot of the nominees are like parting gifts to great shows.
Also, Lost season 2, while absolutely amazing – isn’t stand out. You need season one for the season two to make sense – and while it is a fantastic drama, I think that the Emmy’s it was nominated for were just, and I think that the best Actor category was giving nods to higher caliber actors – not to deny Lost it’s dues, but look at that list! Those are actors that are well worth their nods and are more dramatic actors.
I think that Lost gets tons of praise and it’s a beautiful well written show and deserves the nominations, but really I say congrats for the shows that got the nod.
Although – Grey’s Anatomy is great, it’s no winner, and I personnally think six feet under deserved the nod.
ok, enough of my mispelled ramblings.
That’s all I have to say about that.
I am not surprised by the lack of major nominations for LOST, this season. Let’s face it folks, they dropped the ball this year. Granted, the focus upon the Tailies earlier in the season was sensational, but once the main characters were focused upon . . . nothing. And the manner in which Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Watros and Harold Perrineau were written out, still disgusts me. I’m sorry, but don’t expect any outrage from me.
You can really see how Season Two dropped the ball when you watch the series in DVD blocks of complete seasons. Season One incredible, but Season Two had horrible plot lines, depended too much on conflict and fighting, it sucked basically. Season 3 did not disappoiont, but Season Two ruined a lot of great story lines.
