No Lost Reruns Next Season

Thursday May 18, 2006
We complained and ABC listened! This season's Lost reruns were really aggravating. Lost has many die-hard fans who never miss an episode, and getting an unexpected rerun or clip show with nothing new was hard on us.

ABC's plan is to air seven original episodes beginning the first or second week of the fall season. Then another show (called Day Break that sounds an awful lot like the movie Groundhog Day) will step in for several weeks.

Lost will then return in late January or early February to air new episodes until the end of the season.

I read somewhere that ABC will air 7 new episodes of LOST then this new show will come on for 13 weeks then LOST will resume with 14 or 15 first run episodes. The really bad news is that all of these winter/spring episodes will be against American Idol. That could mean the end of LOST next season if the ratings decline continues. ABC needs to seriously consider moving LOST back to 8:00 p.m. Wednesdays when it returns in Jan/Feb.

I believe they also said the episodes would be available to download – thank heavens! I’d hate to have a DVR problem and miss an episode entirely. I’m already DVR-handicapped in that I can’t tape 2 things at once AND still be watching something. That’s rough this time of year, especially if you are prone to falling asleep during even your favorite shows.

The problem is that the ratings are what drives the advertising dollars and what keeps a show on the air. It’s great that people can download LOST and millions buy the DVDs. Unless the show gets good ratings, it’s done.
