Getting Caught in a Net - Lost Season Two, Episode 22 Recap
Thursday May 18, 2006
Sawyer is convinced that Jack and Kate hooked up while they were out in the jungle before they found Michael. Jack says they got caught in a net and Sawyer says, "That what they're calling it these days?" Then I almost fell off my chair later when Sawyer told Jack that he and Ana-Lucia "got caught in a net".

I also noticed that Jack didn’t correct his mistaken assumption.
I almost fell off my chair when Sawyer said that Jack was the closest thing he had to a friend. Their one-on-one scenes are always great. The amusing thing is that both of them trust each other more than either of them trust Kate. They know where each other stand, but Kate’s a wild card that neither of them quite gets.
Sawyer will screw Jack over in his own interests and Jack will screw Sawyer over in the interest of the group, but since they both recognize that they can deal fair and square with each other. Kate doesn’t follow such straightforward rules.
Thinking today, I finally realized what bothered me about this episode and a plotline. When Claire was captive in the medical hatch, we saw Mr. Friendly minus his beard and Alex there for sure. There was also a fully equipped operating room and Claire’s room was fully furnished. What was that in LOST time, 4 weeks ago? Anyway when Claire returns 2-3 weeks later, everything is gone. How did they manage to pack up and take everything? How did they move it? Did they move everything half way across the island to this new location? Also, didn’t Mr. Friendly’s beird look pretty real AND LONG last night? How is that possible?
It’s not so surprising that they are friends, what is surprising is that Sawyer admitted it. But, yes, at least they know where they stand with each other, unlike Kate.
That beard did look pretty darn real. I was thinking the same thing. I think they have a lot of people and cleaning out the medical hatch probably didn’t take long. The question is, where did they move it to?
I was wondering if Michael wondered (probably too stressed to even notice) that the Others were living very humbly, yet they had a syringe and presumably the capability to do something with his blood.
Two questions:
Miss Klugh says “They’ve captured one of our people”, Michael says “Well go get him.” Miss Klugh says “We can’t do that.”
My question. Why can’t they do that? They clearly outnumber the losties. They’re better armed. Is it that they can’t go to that side of the island for some reason?
Next question:
How did Miss Klugh know that Sawyer’s real name is John Ford? Was that the name on the manefest?
Maybe because non-Henry was inside the hatch and they couldn’t or wouldn’t go in there for some reason.
Yes, James Ford was on the manifest. Hurley and Locke and a few others know Sawyer’s real name.
Well, however real the beard may have looked, the fact is that it was fake — the actor doesn’t have a beard generally, and a beard like that isn’t something that you can grow quickly for occasional appearances on an episode. As I recall, Kate found a make-up kit with the beard in the medical hatch when she went with Claire, so he either has multiple make-up kits or after he captured Michael he left the make-up kit while clearing out the hatch (which may have still been going on at the time). If so, the next time we see Mr. Friendly in the “present” it may well be sans beard.
Why the fake beard to begin with? There are lots of men on the island who shave. Is he afraid of being recognized? If so, who is he?
Yeah, but the first thing I thought of when I saw him was, ‘Wow, that beard sure looks real’.
I think he wants to appear shabby and rough. Seeing the “real” him in Claire’s flashbacks, he looks pretty clean cut. The beard really helps with his renegade island disguise.
